Purchasing Advice: CPO 2019 GLS450

Good morning all, I'm hoping to get some advice about a CPO 2019 GLS450 I'm considering. It's loaded with all the options I've been looking for with only 15K miles on it. The window sticker was $83K, and it's looking like I could get it for $71-72K.

I'd appreciate your feedback with a few questions:
1. What are your thoughts about this price point compared to window sticker?
2. At 15K miles, the upcoming cost of Service B, and possibly new tires that may be around the corner, would you consider buying new instead? It sounds like my 2019 GLC (that I also bought CPO) could trade in for nearly what I paid for it two years ago which makes me wonder if this CPO GLS450 is also inflated because of the low inventory.
3. Lastly, are you happy you went with a GLS over a GLE?

Thank you in advance!

you need to see if you really need the extra space and if you will keep the car for a long time (+5 years). The new GLE is a good truck for it's size but I will not consider it a long term truck just because of the idea of it having a battery that can literally leave you stranded without any warning. I went for the 2019 GLS450 with low mileage (8900 miles on the motor) just because the new GLE won't work space wise and I will be keeping the car for at least 7 years and the X166 platform is robust just like the W166 that I came from in which I had zero major problems with the car except the airmatic at the 7th year of ownership. The new tech is good on the new generation but I only really needed carplay/ android auto.

No way would I pay that for a GLS450 when you can get a 17 550 for much less and an 18/19 550 for about the same with around 30,000 miles. The 550 is so much of a better experience in driving, looks and comes fully loaded standard. You are enticed by the low mileage on that 450, but IMO is not worth it over a much better vehicle in the 550. Take this from someone who just purchased a 17 CPO 550.

@stinson23

1. Price seems in the ballpark looking at cargurus listings.

2. I wouldn't buy a new GLS. The 167 platform (current GLS) has been a disaster. The 48V system is problematic, and there have been a host of other less severe issues. I would avoid the 167 platform entirely. The 2019 GLS is arguably the best preowned MB available today. The 166 platform is rock solid reliable, the 3.0L V6 TT engine in the GLS450 is reliable and gives decent performance and fuel economy. All vehicles today are overpriced, both new and used. If you need a car now, you need it. If you can wait 2 years, the supply/demand situation should hopefully be more in balance.

3. Can't speak to this, although the GLS is generally a more luxuriously optioned vehicle than the GLE, which makes it more desirable in my view. Pls the GLS has three seating rows if that is important to you.

I just purchased a CPO GLS450 less than a month ago with 34k miles. The MSRP was $84k and I paid $55k. Your lower mileage is certainly worth something, how much is up to you.

Check to see what work was done in the CPO process - every one I looked at had new brakes, rotors and tires installed by the dealer.

I test drove a GLE and while it was nice, the GLS is a step up in terms of ride quality IMHO.

Thanks so much for all your posts. That sounds like you got a great deal Scotty. I'm torn because I know $71K isn't any kind of deal, but this is the first time I've come across a GLS that has everything I've been looking for. This one even has the espresso brown interior with white stitching that I've rarely seen during my search. My other concern was the upcoming extra cost of having to replace the tires and added cost of service B, but found out the tires were just low enough that they had to be replaced to meet the CPO standards. It was also due for annual service so they performed service B. I'm getting extremely close to pulling the trigger. Thanks again for your feedback!

Please post a photo of the GLS when it arrives in your driveway!

Hey if it's got everything you've been looking for, and it's CPO (so you shouldn't need to service it for 10k/1year), I think you will be very happy! All cars are super expensive these days. Used 2020's are going for OVER original MSRP!

Yeah, that. I dicked around in July and ended up paying more for a car that had less than what I looked at before I finally decided I needed a different car. If it's everything you want, get it now. A year from now the price won't matter.

If you really like it, go for it. Reliable and comfortable and better looking than the 2020 and beyond models. All cars are expensive and I always feel like I could have gotten a better deal.....just how it works, especially now.

Post a pic once you get it.

Enjoy!

Thanks again for all the feedback! I officially bought it last night and am extremely excited. I've really enjoyed my GLC, but with multiple littles ones the third row will be much more functional and I plan to keep this GLS for many years to come. It hasn't been detailed yet, but here's a picture from the lot:
