GLS550 2017 Front Timing Chain Cover Link
Hi All, my 2017 GLS550 at 95K miles stared leaking oil from the passenger side front Valve Cover (Luckily i caught it early before it was able to kill the alternator). Below is a link that I found really useful at replacing it myself. The local Mercedes shop charged me $108 for the gasket glue and 4 gaskets for the Camshaft Solenoids. I opted out of paying $150 worth of new aluminum bolts. In any case, I completed the left side this past weekend (took about 2-3 hrs) and thanks to the below video it was pretty easy, but tedious. The video is to replace the chain tensioner, but gives a nice step by step and even shows how to lay the new gasket bead. Why wouldn't Mercedes have an actual gasket for this? The job would be so much easier,...removing the old gasket wasn't too bad with a grinding tool with brass brushes (Glad my wife had this in her craft kit, lol). The other side isn't leaking yet, but will go ahead and do it when time permits.
