If the Airmatic shocks aren't leaking, do they still wear out in a way that negatively affects the ride?
My 2017 has the Airmatic, I'm new to the vehicle. I feel despite the air ride, the suspension is hard. The Airmatic functions normally, and it does get stiffer in sport mode.

On my 2018, I have a button near the selection switch for sport comfort etc. it looks like a box, just a box. Press it and you will eventually see a car view showing tire deflection in %s, level or ascending/descending grade %, and what each of you wheel suspensions are doing. normally I see three gold rings on each tire. When my airmatic system went bad, the bad bag was blinking and showed only one ring (blinking). That’s your bad airmatic bag. Super easy to replace. I’d do both left and right. I’ve only done the rears, not sure on fronts, or the “rest” of the suspension, which is more complicated.
Hope this helps!

my 2018 GLS has 111,720 now, bought it used with 57k and love the smooth ride but as the milage piles on the ride did feel more harsh especially over bumps. One of the rear air springs leaked and would sag on that side overnight and so I changed them but did not notice any changes in the ride. A few days ago I replaced the rear shocks and must say that the car now rides much better almost the same or better when purchased. So these shocks definately gets weak at some point based on milege (for me), seems like they were bottoming out. Fronts are expensive and will try to save up maybe in the summerr I'll get those done.

I just had a weird experience with our 2017 GLS 550 driving home.
About 2 miles from home, all of a sudden the car started riding really "rough" in the right rear corner. Almost like the sport suspension had gotten engaged back there. About a mile from home, it seemed to get better and when I got it in the garage I checked that corner and the height was perfectly fine. I was ready to bet that tire was going to be tucked up into the fender. Really weird. Is this a sign either the bag, the distribution block, or the strut is starting to fail?

ride height
I always check my ride height by looking at the distance above the tire and fender well…
