Question Ash Tray Insert Removal

(This doesn't seem like I should need help on, but it is what it is, and I'm not too proud...) Is there a trick to removing the front "ash tray insert"? If not, have others experienced issues with it getting stuck, and if so how did you resolve?

I've found in the hard-copy owner's manual where they describe the process, but still can't manage it.
- The instructions and figure basically look like as shown at: https://www.mersuv.com/mbread-389.html
- I interpret this to mean as listed below. Is this correct?
- - Open the roll-top cover all the way
- - Open the flip cover
- - Push the insert left, and lift up on the right side first
- - Then lift up the whole thing
- On my '17 GLS 450:
- - the insert does wiggle, so isn't just stuck by some spill/corrosion or something
- - the right seems to have more wiggle, especially in vertical direction, than the left
- - the insert doesn't even budge left or right - even with significant force (only using fingers, no tools/prying)

Thanks in advance for any help.

On my 2018, I just opened the ashtray lid and pulled it straight up. Came out like any other ashtray I’ve removed.

It is very likely you have coins on the side of the ashtray and that's why you can't remove it. Mine is that way and I've been fighting it and fighting it since I purchased it almost 6 months ago.

Stuff jammed around it was indeed the culprit. I asked our mechanic to look when he was doing some other work, and he was able to pry up on one side and get it out. A little tab broke off down at the bottom, but no big deal - it goes in/out easier than new now.
