How much coolant?

Will be doing a coolant flush soon as I have to change out the thermostat.

Does anyone know how much coolant will be needed if I'm only draining from the radiator?

Thanks.

If you're just draining from the radiator on the 2017 GLS450, you'll probably only get about 4 to 5 liters out, maybe a bit more if you tilt the front end up or blow out the system a bit. The total cooling system holds around 12.3 liters, but draining just the radiator won’t get all of it, since a good amount stays trapped in the block and heater core unless you use vacuum equipment or open block drains, which most folks don’t bother with unless they're doing a full flush.

If you’re only swapping the thermostat and topping up after, just grab 2 gallons of coolant (that’s about 7.5L) and you’ll be more than covered. Just make sure to get the right stuff—MB spec 325.6 (G48) or their own blue coolant. Worst case, you end up with some extra for topping off later.

Thanks for the info! - had a few questions since you seem to be knowledgable!

To get to the T-state I'll have to remove the intercooler, I'll have to drain that some how (is there a good way to do that on these? or just pop the lowest coolant hose on it and try to catch what I can with a pan underneath?)

Lastly, what's the best method to refill / burp that intercooler with out a vacuum system?

Yikes:
"jimyj" is a sales pitch. Have a look at any 5 or so of jimyj past posts. You just might notice the artificially personalized robotic responses that, about 80% of the time, happen to mention a certain scanner ;-)
