Post 2019 GLS450 front diff / transfer case oil

Hi. New here. New to Mercedes. I've managed to do as much searching as possible before posting, but I apologize if I missed something.

Here is the fundamental question. What oil specs are to be used in the front diff (235.7? or 235.75?) and transfer case (236.12? or 236.17?) of a 2019 GLS 450?

I don't mind changing my own diff fluids and transfer case fluid. I do mind putting the wrong fluid in them.

Attached is the MB Gear Oil Specs published 2/18/2026

Rear Diff: 239.71
Tranny: 236.17
Transfer Case: 236.12
Front Diff: 235.75 and can use 235.7 "only in exceptional cases..." and "use only if no product from 235.75 is available"

MB's only current oil specs shows a specific 235.75 as the Fuchs TITAN SINTOPOID FE 75W-85

I stopped by the dealership today to get a estimate for front/rear/transfer case oil swaps and they quoted the front diff using a 235.7 gear oil part number 001-989-33-03-09 and for transfer case they quoted a 236.17 gear oil part number 002-989-06-03-12 (regular transmission fluid). Both are not consistent with the spec sheets. So what's the deal here?

I admit I don't know enough about oil specs to compare one designation to another.

I just can't find any 235.75 non-MB oil out there. I generally use Ravenol and they quote 235.7 in the front diff.

Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi,

I am confused myself as a 2019 GLS 450 owner myself as well. I purchased based off of FCP Euro and it has similar recommendations but slightly different. Here is what I ended up with:

Engine Oil: Motul 8100 X-max SAE 0W-40 (229.5)

Transmission: 236.17 (ATF D971)

Front and Rear Differential: MB universal hypoid gear oil SAE 75W-85 (On the back it says MB approval 235.7 & 235.74)

Transfer case: MB 236.14 Transmission Fluid

I wonder how much different these fluids are from the MB spec recommendations…. Looking for clarity as well.

@Pmdonca For transfer case: Ravenal ATF Synthetic M 9-Serie simultaneously meets both MB 236.12 and MB 236.14 specs. Front/Rear Diff: Ravenol DGL Fullsynth 75W-85 Limited Slip meets MB 235.15/.31/.33/.62/.7/.74 and MB 239.71 but "apparently" doesn't cover 235.75.

I did drop the 235.7 into the Front Diff today since I can't find anything for 235.7 and the dealer quoted me 235.7.

If anyone has any color here, that would be helpful.

Also, if anyone is interested, at 46K miles my 2019 GLS 450 Front Diff fluid looked great. Transfer Case fluid looked moderately good. Rear Diff fluid wasn't awful, but the oil change was needed on the rear. No car MX history indicating that the 3 fluids have ever been changed - so I'm assuming full 46K miles duration on the fluid.

Swapped out Front with 780 ml. Transfer Case with 500 ml. Rear with 1.22L
