Dealer Screwed Up GLS550
When I picked the truck up and drove off the lot, I immediately noticed a vibration in the steering wheel and front end play that was never there before the 3 years and 45,000 miles I owned the truck. Dealer tried to say everything was fine, then tech admitted he felt it and replaced transmission mount didn’t fix (he thought it was a driveline vibration), then dealer ordered another driveshaft and replaced (or what they told me) to rule it out, (didn’t fix), then the blamed bad wheel balance they road force balanced (didn’t fix), then they blamed my 3 month old Michelin Pilot Sports AS4 (got a new set warrantied by Michelin) didn’t fix. Then they threw up their hands and said it drives the best it can in their eyes. I’ve had a couple non Mercedes mechanics verify they felt the vibration/play in the front end.
For the past year and a half I’ve had multiple road force balances, alignments at another local Mercedes dealer. No fix. AMG wheels no bends. Every dealer and shop says everything is tight. Recently had new Michelins, OEM Front struts, lower and upper control arms. No change. Another highly rated local dealer who was confident in their shop foreman test drove with me and eventually felt it. He said he thought it was torque converter. They had it in shop for a week and loosened front motor mounts and rear drive shaft plus some other stuff and road forced balanced. It rode better but no change to the front end vibration and disconnected feeling.
Unfortunately, what I’m experiencing sometimes varies and sometimes the truck drives somewhat normal (at times when trying to prove on a test drive) and other times it is definitely off.
I think it’s way overdue and time to throw in the towel and dump this thing. What do you think?
