2020 GLS 450 Finally!
Picked up my GLS 450 a few days ago. It is just awesome (and I hate that word)!
I have driven Mercedes for about 35 years. When the SUV came out I purchased one in 2007 and in 2014. I waited for the 2020 because I hated the "I-pad" look of the dash.
One thing I wanted was a heated steering wheel. And Distronics (never had it). Something else I wanted required a "package" but I cannot remember what that was. Part of the package was the massage. I didn't upgrade the wheels and am satisfied with the regular look.
It is much improved from my 2014.

A few photos. One thing that is difficult to see is the black "rim" around each fender. My 2014 did not have that. Not sure what it is called.
Well, I have the photos uploaded I just don't know how to get them posted.

One thing about the new model that I do NOT like is the second row seats do not lie flat when they are down. This was a real disappointment to me. But, with my dog crates I rarely have the second row seats down since that is where they stay.
One thing I do like is the wide black rim along the edge of every fender well. Perhaps other models had it but my 2014 didn't.

It looks like the official fuel economy is 16/22. That seems like a step back from the prior V6 GLS450. The windows look freshly tinted. No time for the bubbling to settle down.

For rear seat entertainment, thankfully they are smart enough to just give you a mounting point for proper entertainment (iPad etc). Sadly I’m told that a pair of mounts costs $300...

Whew.. thanks for the clarification. It's amazing to see that the GLE and GLS get about the same fuel economy despite the significant difference in size. Gas price spikes in CA this week ($4.60 per gallon for 91 octane in my neighborhood due to some claim about multiple refineries being down for maintenance) makes me cringe even though it's a drop in the bucket in the big picture. I always wondered if engines living in California are cleaner with less carbon deposit build-up due to the stringent standards for cleaner burning fuel in this state. Someone needs to look into that.
21 mpg combined ain't bad at all. Now I need to get my wife to focus on utility and size as she test drove a Tesla X and is heavily leaning to the electric.

Looks like a larger version of the GLC. Not necessarily a bad thing. The interior dash area is a mess. The large, looks stuck on, display and the Buick type vents as well as the buttons via Chevrolet truck look out of place. In my opinion, MB really missed the mark with the new GLS. Looks like I will not be buying this generation.

Don't worry, the Maybach GLS is on its way. Although I can't imagine what MB could add to its interior to justify a 200K sticker. Maybe the interior upgrades will trickle down to the GLS refresh in several years.

The black trim all along the bottom of the vehicle and wheel well do not look good and lend to the wheels looking too small. First thing I would do is paint the black band the same color as the vehicle. Would look so much better and would make the wheels fit the wheel well better.

I really wonder how MBUSA decides on the wheel choices and things like that black trim. This is supposed to be, per them the S-Class of SUVs yet it looks terrible in base trim. The 450 needs body color fender trim and bigger wheels and also the option of the AMG package on the 450. No offense to the owner. The previous GLS450 looks better in base form than this 2020 model.

Yes. Here's the latest from jesmb.de, translated.
Here is a now a slightly disguised Mercedes Maybach GLS to see. It has the well-known from the S-Class Maybach grille with the vertical chrome struts. The star will stand on the hood. The GLS will also be available as Maybach with comfort single seats in the rear. In the rear apron, the changed tailpipe trims stand out. Deliveries will start in 2020.
