I already have a BlackVue dual camera set-up from my last car I am going to install in the new GLS, but I would drop it in a heartbeat if we can get this dashcam feature activated from the existing cameras on the car (like a Tesla). I wouldn't see a single owner NOT activating this feature... Do we have a smart card area or anywhere in the GLS to attach a storage device that is accessible? Tesla's dashcam system ONLY worked when you added an SD card.
It looks like you can save the footage to the external SD Card or USB Stick, or maybe even utilize the Mercedes built-in hard drive. And you can also playback right inside the car.
Since you can buy a zillion different portable ones without any restriction, I can't imagine they're illegal in the US.... unless it's a regulation on items that are BUILT into the car
Dash cam is legal in US or Canada
But my SA said MB USA/Canada will not enable it due to legal liability and the fact that the 50 states and 11 province all have different laws and are very hard to navigate legally.
Still sad they put it on there as a tease. I would really love this feature and not to do another external one.

A correction - on the 2021 Dealer Order Guides Published so far - and on the 2021 Dealer Configure Screen's setup so far in NetStar - the is
- NO ORDERABLE DASH CAM OPTION -
Dashcam will be available only on A, CLA, GLA and GLB Classes. However it may be retrofittable to other models, which are equipped with Navi Augmented Video feature..
I stand corrected - yes - Dash Cam is a option on 2021 configure for A and GLA - 2021 GLB does not have a configure screen yet..
21U also requires minimum MB Interior Assistant and Premium as well..
I guess that means older models can't get it retro-activated since Interior Assist has been constantly delayed and isn't on any 2020 compact models. I wonder why it's needed...
It looks like someone has got dashcam working through a mod/hack, plus wireless Apple CarPlay. Adventurous users may want to see if he can help activate it for you.
Did they give an estimated delivery date, and what type of % off MSRP did you receive?

Are you in touch with the GM of the dealership? I have never been very impressed with the sales side of my local dealers here - I think their model is to sit back and try move a lot of vehicles off of the lot, and I haven't seen much of any followup by the sales reps. I would be super proactive with the rep, and I would also recommend reaching out to the GM as soon as you start to get frustrated...
