Night time driving (dash lights too bright?)

I am inching closer and closer to pulling the trigger on a new GLS450 for the family wagon. I am curious - at night - does anyone find the two screens to be too bright and annoying? Hard to see past the glare on a dark road? Can the second screen be turned off while still keeping functionality? On my old 2014 E350, one of my favorite buttons is the ability to turn off the screen at night while keeping the stereo on and navigation working. Curious if the GLS is capable of doing something similar?

thanks!

The right screen can be turned off. You can still see your navigation map in the dashboard even full screen if you want. You can also control the stereo from there.

There are 2 different ways to adjust the brightness. There is the traditional brightness dial to the left of the steering wheel that adjusts both screens. And there is a brightness setting in MBUX that only effects the right screen.

Many thanks! That’s good to hear and satisfies my concern. Now the debate over the 21 vs 20 inch wheels and which is easiest to live with. Like the look of the 21, but concerned they’re going to be like my 18 AMG wheels on the E350 and not be tough enough to survive a pot hole hit...

I don't think there will be much functional difference between 20 and 21. The 580 starts with 21 and goes all the way to 23.

Thanks darlop! I think you're right, and considering this is an SUV in general, I would have to believe that MB would use rims that are maybe a bit tougher than the ones they put on my sedan which carry that AMG imprint. I would hope they wouldn't use something too weak to handle the "SUV" aspect of their vehicle, within reason of course.

We've found the one we want about 90 miles away. I have the number to make the deal happen, just waiting on one other component to fall into place which hopefully will be today. It's a pricey ticket to pay, but considering my wife and kids ride up and down I-95 from DC to NC at least once a month to visit family, one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the country, there is no price I won't pay to keep them as safe as possible.

Oddly enough - can you believe CarMax is willing to give me $12,000 for a 2013 Toyota Highlander Limited with 135,000 miles, a dented rear quarter panel, and a front bumper that was not exactly put on correctly after Mr. Tire forgot to check with Mr. Lugnut on a routine tire rotation 3 years ago that resulted in $9k of damage for them to fix, and shows up on CarFax? I don't understand how that place stays in business, but I sure am glad they're there this time!
