New 2020 GLS 450 - key fob not responsive

Just got a text from my wife. The Key fob she was using stopped unlocking or locking the car. She had to unlock the car with her phone. She hasn't tried the other fob yet as she does not have it with her.

Has anybody experienced any issues with the car not responding to the fob? She said the app was telling her the windows were down and they were not.

Hoping its just a Fluke and not some problem right off the bat... I asked her to mark the fob she was using so we know which one it is to see if its just that or something else..

The only times I’ve had issues with key fobs is either when next to my phone, or battery. The iphone seems to interfere with the signal if too close.

the salesman told me to not leave my key fob in the car at night (park in the garage) as it will drain the battery quickly. I guess if it’s inside the car, it talks to the car almost constantly. Not sure if I buy that or not though.

I was watching video on some Mercedes focused guy's website about this a month ago. Yes it is a thing with vehicles and key fobs. In the case he was diagnosing, the key fob was not in the car but it was stored in a drawer on other side of the wall of the garage from the car (so close proximity) and that person's vehicle battery kept getting drained. The dealership could not find a problem to explain it and if they kept the vehicle the battery would not drain. He said same thing can happen if parking in an airport lot where people walk by constantly with key fobs and he talked of how the modern cars constantly try to figure out by signal if that is their key fob approaching or not. That all these fobs talk to the cars in a similar way, so the vehicle is not really going to sleep and keeps using the battery for that chatter and to keep systems alert. Again he was focused on Mercedes in his video and I thought he even showed a way for that model to turn off something to help not drain the vehicle's battery if you are parking in a long term lot that will have people walking past constantly. So I think he was saying the keys have to be more than 20 feet or it was 30 feet to not keep waking up the vehicle. That is how I remember it. He was able to solve the guy's problem.
