Probably not. One thing a dealer hates is someone who tries to renegotiate a deal. Make your best deal now.

Ok, I'm new to a BTO, so was thinking there would be possible further negotiation at delivery with trade-in consideration as well as financing and any MB incentives.

Aside from the $500 fleet incentive, there aren't any incentives for the GLS and there likely won't be.
There may be special financing, then again there may not be.
Of course, your trade in's value will be determined when you take delivery. You may be able to haggle a little but not much.
Keep in mind that demand for the GLS is pretty strong right now, your dealer will have no trouble selling your ordered car to someone else if you don't like the deal you get.

I am in the dreaded process of buying a new Mercedes for my wife. I enjoy this process as much as a root canal or colonoscopy… Reading through the thread above the discounts on a GLS63 vary between 0% and 8%. The current offer I have from the dealer is 0% discount on the GLS 63 with a measly $24K for her 2014 GL550 with 57k miles. At that amount for her trade I am just going to keep it or give it to another family member that needs a vehicle.

Has anyone been successful in getting more recent discounts on the GLS 63?

Why not just buy it where you can get the 8% discount? Then with your $12,000 savings you can afford an enclosed transport to your home.

Maybe my original post wasn't overly clear. I was looking to see if others are seeing those type discounts on the GLS 63 in recent weeks. I am more than willing to buy it from anywhere if the deal is attractive and shipping it is not an issue for me.

Rob - my rep is a very honest, extremely no-nonsense German guy who has been at the highest volume dealer here in the San Francisco area forever. I was able to get 6% off MSRP for my custom-ordered GLS580 with him. I'm sure he will tell you if they can do anything on the GLS63. I do know this dealership is now selling AMG G-Wagons at $50,000 over MSRP, so you may be on the wrong side of supply and demand. Also, it may get better if you want until January or February when fewer people are out car shopping - perhaps midwest dealers would be hungier then?

Thanks, I was able to find a GLS 63 with just over 300 miles on it in the color combination my wife wanted. I was able to get it at an okay discount but got the upside of the CPO warranty

just saw this thread. You were in the same boat as me. I was offered 26k on a trade in of a 2015 gl550 with 56k miles on it. Got a gls63 for 5% off about 2 weeks ago in the Bay Area, California. Car was on the lot

It appears the better discounts are on the west coast. Congrats on the new GLS 63. My wife is happy with hers.

Did you keep your GL550?

congrats on your gls63 as well! Can you share what the practically new cpo car went for?

the gl550 went to a family member. It was fully loaded with designo package, rear entertainment, etc so trading it in for 26k just seemed wrong.

GLS 450
I just bought a new 2020 GLS 450 for 10% off 86k MSRP. Another dealer was only going for 5% off. I also got the 2.99% apr for 72 months for their promotional offer so I think it was a good deal. My first Mercedes also, coming from BMW and Audi. Very excited.

I went to 2 dealers - made an offer with the 2nd dealer and they weren't going moving any lower than 5%. I got tired of the negotiating process and called the first dealer and told the salesperson that I'm ready to make a deal as long as it's a good deal. Ten minutes later we got the 10% off MSRP deal.

Got $3750 off a custom ordered 2021 GLS580 and then $5k off a 2021 GLS63 that we saw on the showroom floor when we went in to finalize trade in. I was pushing hard for more off the 63 since it is the end of the year but they wouldn’t go any lower.

2021 GLS 450 discounts?

After receiving a piece of direct mail marketing from a local dealer touting a $989 per month 2021 GLS450 lease, I reached out on-line to said dealer about an in stock 2021 GLS450 that had an MSRP of $86K (i.e. "click here for your e-price"). Pretty quickly I got an e-mail saying they would take $1,000 off MSRP. I said Ok, I would take it - but that I also had a control number for a $500 fleet discount. They reluctantly agreed to add that, for a total of $1,500 off MSRP. So once we had agreed on the car and selling price I said I now wanted to evaluate cash, finance and lease options.

The standard Mercedes Money Factor on GLS is .0016 (or ~ 3.84%), and based on some of the sales tax considerations in my state I was potentially interested in a lease but would have leveraged multiple security deposits or single pay to bring the money factor down. This dealership would only offer a money factor of .00225 (i.e. 5.4%) and would not make any adjustment for Multiple Security Deposits. If I financed instead of leased they were at 5.15% APR (i'm tier 1, 800+). I told them their rates were way off the mark, and did not match the 2.9% borrowing rate or the .0016 money factor that was used in the direct mail I received, and also indicated on their website. They said due to high demand they wouldn't honor the money factor or interest rates used in the nationally advertised promotions.

I then suggested they keep the $1,000 discount they had offered, but honor the standard Mercedes money factor. They refused that too. Thus, they basically refused to sell the car at MSRP and honor the money factor used in their direct mail advertising (and on MB website). I'm pretty sure they get reimbursed from MB for the $500 fleet discount, so that should be irrelevant.

I realize the supply is low, but refusing to sell a car at MSRP using the rate this very dealer is advertising seems crazy to me.

What are people actually paying for a 2021 GLS 450? I'm not in a hurry, so i think I will just order one so I don't get stuck with options I don't want.

Thanks

If they agreed to $1500 off, why not get financing on your own? Bank of America has 2.59% for 60 months with excellent credit. PenFed has 2.89% and I just got my loan from a local credit union at 2.24% for 60 months. Take the $1500 discount and finance through someone else. Or, look at another dealer since they are being a pain in the ***.

I've so far been unsuccessful with any discount on the GLS63. Even if ordering custom.

fair question, 2 reasons I may want to lease: 1). In Illinois if you trade a car in the maximum value for sales tax purposes is $10k, so if in 3 years it is worth $50k and I trade it in on an $90k car, I would pay tax on $80 vs the $40k differential. Now on a lease, you only pay tax on lease portion, not entire car 2). If they over estimated the residual I can walk away, or sometimes they negotiate.

i have found that a bank is way more conservative on residuals than the mfr finance arm.

By using MsD or single pay you can bring the money factor way down, then it doesn’t end up costing me more money and I pick up an option to walk after 3 years. Certainly if the residual is set low than leasing can be a bad deal

If you want to lease, seems that particular dealer has you where they want you. They’ve pulled you in with the small discount but are going to more than make up for that by jacking up the MF rate. If you really want to lease and aren’t sold on that particular GLS, then call around and find a dealer that is willing to give you some discount and offer the lowest available MF. Plenty of dealers want to move an extra GLS if they have one on the lot.

a different local dealer offered me $2500 of on an order that will arrive in March. Also agreed to use what ever the nationally advertised rates are. This Saves me $5.000+ (another $1,000 off msrp, plus another $1,800 in options I didn’t want, plus a money factor without added markup. Was a pleasure with the second dealer.

ironically the first dealer just sent me a message supposedly from the GM (sure it was automated) hoping they answered all my questions and that the “really valued my business”. Ha!

pinged autobahn today via their website and kevin truong came back with $2k off an "in stock" GLS (at a "sister" store) that has a sticker just south of $85k (roughly 2.4% off). just doing some homework to see which dealer i want to work with when it's time to purchase. this wasn't quite the start i was looking for, but i'm in no rush. i may reach out to franz (ddruker's rec) when the time comes.

2011 GL 350, P1 Package, HID headlamps, Blind spot assist, Parktronic, Wood steering wheel
In my weekly checkin with my sales rep last week, I learned last week that my GLS580 that was supposed to be produced the week of December 15 has now been put on factory hold, with no ETA. As my 2011 GL 350 is trying it's best to die, yesterday I went out and bought a new 2021 Ford F150 Platinum. My updated strategy is to use the new truck as the main tow vehicle for my Airstream as well as my main "large" vehicle for hauling stuff around - what tipped me over the edge is that the new F150 has a 7,200-watt generator built-in, which I think is total genius - it can actually power two Airstreams, so I won't ever need to camp in an RV park again.

This change means I will also need a new sedan for a daily driver, and I'm very interested in the upcoming Mercedes EQS. I drove a Telsa model S performance earlier this year, and I hated the interior - the Tesla seemed to me to be a $95,000 vehicle with the acceleration of a $500,000 super car, with just average handling, and with the interior of a $30,000 honda. I'm hoping the EQS will bring great handling and a high level of luxury to the EV world, and I really don't care that much about sub 3 second 0 to 60 time.

I let my rep know today, and he will release the vehicle back into their inventory when it comes in. If anyone is looking for a very well optioned GLS580 in emerald green with macchiato interior, it should be available at Autobahn motors in the SF bay area sometime this quarter - it should be a beautiful GLS. Franz Krieg, franz.krieg@autobahnmotors.com is the rep - I negotiated six percent off MSRP with him - perhaps he would give one of you the same price for the same GLS.

Wow, going from Lux SUV to Prem pick-up - I'm sure that was a difficult decision ! Like Doug Demuro, the Auto Youtuber says, "it is a good dilemma to gave". Your GLS 580 'factory hold with no ETA' post caught my attention because I am also waiting for very well optioned GLS 580, lunar blue, macchiato leather, 22" night Pkg, high end 3D Burmester that I ordered with San Francisco MB on Oct 1, 2020. The sales Rep informed me on Jan 11 that Est Prod date is Jan 19 with decade Sched Jan 2 and decade planned Jan 3. Has anyone else received information that their GLS580 is on factory hold with no ETA ? And thanks ddruker for sharing your MB update and enjoy the F150 !

My rep said the factory / his MBUSA contact would not tell him or did not know the reason for the production hold. I assume it is due to some option I ordered being unavailable. I did get a VIN in November, but my rep doesn't know if they built the GLS and are waiting for missing parts, or if they didn't ever start to build the GLS knowing something was missing. I think that Night package, Wood steering wheel, Macchiato interior, heads up display, all the autonomous driving features, max towing package, forward facing camera were the potentially unusual options I chose that could have caused a production delay. I basically ordered almost everything except active tilting suspension or the highest end head unit. It seems strange to me there is no way for the rep to learn the reason for the delay. and give the buyer a chance to turn off unavailable options.

One thing I learned that positively surprised me is that Ford actually has a custom order process that is much more transparent than Mercedes is. You get a VIN pretty early in the process, and then you can track your order yourself here -> https://shop.ford.com/vehicleordertracking#/

PS - I see my buying decision more about optimizing my fleet. I have a Porsche convertible that my rule is to only drive with the top down - so it is my very fun impractical car. So the decision is really about the combination of a premium pickup truck plus a luxury electric sedan instead of a luxury SUV. I will spend more money, but hopefully will make fewer compromises in the end... The F150 priced out at $69k, and I expect the EQS to price out about $20k less than the GLS580, after federal and state tax rebates.
