Panorama roof

So I ordered my 2021 450 in August, and the dealer was slow to send me the build confirmation. I was then slow to review it, and when I finally did I noticed it was missing the pano roof. Of course it’s too late to add it. They did a nationwide search and there is no other existing build out there with everything we want, even being flexible with color. I think it’s because we want the captains chairs which are fairly atypical. We were very specific with our order, and for better or worse don’t wish to make any changes. So our choice is take what we have (no roof) at the end of Dec, or put in a new build which means 4 month delay. So I’m wondering if anyone out there has one without the roof and if they miss it or it feels more closed in for the 3rd row? We’re coming from a QX60 with the pano roof that the kids love. And no, our dealer doesn’t have one on the lot without the roof that we can look at.

In my opinion only - I'd place the new order for the pano roof. It does make the cabin feel a good bit more open and airy. We came from a Toyota Highlander (pano not an option on it). After 7 years with the Toyota, the pano roof was the key option we had to have for whatever car we ended up replacing it with. We liked the MB's version the best, and the kids really love it too. I think you'll always miss it if you don't get it since you already have one and really enjoy it. We were driving by the White House a few weeks ago when Marine One (all 3 of them) came buzzing over. The pano paid for itself at that moment when the kids in the back lost their marbles over how cool it was to see.

Chalk up the mistake to Murphy's Law and get the new order exactly how you like it. Four months wait for a car you'll likely have for many years isn't too bad (but yes, annoying!)

Of course it's totally subjective. I'm sure you have sit/driven in both versions, so you will be the best judge to that. I never use the sunroof in my cars and it's always completely closed with the shade pulled too, so panoramic roof is a waste of money in my book. The only time I do anything with sunroofs is before doing a carwash which won't be needed with this car thanks to the carwash mode!

I enjoy having a sunroof, so my inclination is to think the bigger the better. On both my previous GL and my current GLS, I chose not to order the Panorama Roof and stick with the regular sunroof. In both cases I have had a black headliner (GL with Almond, GLS with Tartufo), so I was concerned the cabin would feel cramped but it does not. My salesperson advised me that in his experience some customers have been unhappy with the heat, the added road noise and the occasional popping of the Pano Roof. My wife has a Pacifica (yes, I know...) with the large sunroof that she and the kids have opened for fireworks and Christmas light displays--otherwise it remains covered. The Pano Roof looks cool from both inside and outside, but it was not worth it to me.

Personally I would put a new order in. You’re spending a good amount of money on this truck and you should have it the way you want it. I almost always have mine open. Is it no sunroof at all? Or just a regular sunroof ? If nothing I would certainly do it.

So my original 450 arrived the day after thanksgiving (was originally supposed to be late December). We looked at it but really didn’t like it without the roof. So we reordered and were told late February build. Frankly, I’m not really driving much now and won’t mind not having it getting dirty during the Pittsburgh winter. And dealer took off $1300 as “apology” without me having to ask. I thought that was fair. I’ll probably give it back on the trade...

That was nice of the dealer to do!

I personally think you made the right decision. The pano roof on this car is really great, and we really enjoy it. It brings in so much natural light that it makes the cabin feel very open and airy. I’m sure we’ll get a rattle/run sound here and there as it gets cold and the seals harden up, but small price to pay in our book for the luxury of it.
