Engine/Turbo Difference of inline 450 vs 53

Can anyone tell what the differences are between the inline 450 and AMG 53? For instance, is the turbo different? Are the engine internals different? I suspect there are notable differences and not just a tune. Thanks in advance.

I'm aware of the forum. My interest lies with the GLS. But perhaps the GLE forum is better since they run both inline sixes there. Moderator, if you can move this to the GLE forum I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The biggest difference is that the 53 has the electric compressor upstream from the turbo. I would suspect that the turbo itself is different. Different intake, exhaust setup

I had looked into this in the past and the engines in the 450 and 53 AMG are both referred to as the “M256 Engine.” The one for the 450 is engine version M256 E30 DEH GA GR and the one for the 53AMG is M256 E30 DEH LA G. As far as I can see, both versions of the M256 engine have the same BorgWarner eBooster compressor (often mistakenly referred to as a turbo charger) in addition to a more traditional twin scroll turbo charger.

By the way, if any of you find any more differences I encourage you to update the below wikipedia article since it’s so easy for the public to edit wikipedia. Please cite your source if available.

The 450 does not have the electric compressor. That is reserved for the 53.
