We had our first winter storm here in the western burbs of DC this week. Got about 5 inches of snow and then a ton of ice. Took the GLS out for a spin to see how it handles it. As I suspected - just like my 212 - a friggin’ German tank! Even on parts of the road that were cleared earlier of the snow but then got coated with sheet of ice - while slid around a bit, never lost its composure or made me feel unsafe our out of control (which I also think is a false-confidence booster and dangerous in its own right to a less-experienced driver).
only complaint - parking sensors went wonky a bit as they got caked with winter road crud. But short lived, and eventually cleared and back to normal.
real treat to cruise around gently in a new GLS during a winter storm, heated seats and heated steering wheel on, checking out Christmas lights and listening to Christmas music. That feeling - is why I am now a MB fan! It’s an unmatchable feeling. Cabin is such a relaxing and enjoyable place to spend time in, mature, high-end, not gimmicky or racer feeling. Just, classy. Love it!!

We’re up to 10k on the odometer already and they’re holding up pretty well. I suspect they’re probably 30k tires though. I don’t take my tires down to the wear bar, especially on something with such a high center of gravity like an suv. When it comes time to replace them, we’ll be going with the Michelins without hesitation.
My GLS now has the 21 inch Michelin Primacy Tour All Season. Came with 22 inch Continental Premium Contact 6 summer only and no All-season available in 22 size. The ride on the Michelin Primacy is better than the Continental. The sidewall height is the same so that isn't why they ride better. Downside is the rolling diameter is smaller on the 21 inch so my speedo is off by 7% and was off only 2% with the 22 inch. Funny both 22 and 21 are Mercedes "MO" specification and size for this model. I ordered aftermarket 21 inch rims with the Mercedes specification for offset etc. . I was not going to change to a size or spec. that Mercedes did not approve of because of the tires affect on ride quality, so my ride is excellent now but the speedo inaccuracy really bothers me. The Mercedes computers I was told by my MB Service dept. do not have a setting change to allow for more accuracy with the 2 tire height differences. If anyone is aware of a way to correct the speedo to accomodate optional tire size please let me know. Went 21 inch Vossen wheels to get All Season tires which are not available in the 22's it came with.
