Bag Carrier recommendations for the hitch?

I'm going on a short trip soon and will need to transport enough bags for four people plus our two dogs. I've just started looking at bag carriers that sit on the hitch and was wondering if anyone had experience and/or any product recommendations. Thanks in advance.

You mean a hitch haul, correct? Have you considered a roof box? That would be my choice. Or a roof (metal) basket with suitable vinyl covered fabric bag. The roof box and roof basket options firstly require crossbars from a company such as Thule or Yakima, or any other.

I am not a fan of hitch hauls - risk of damage while reversing, risk of damage from other vehicles in parking lots, they are wobbly and look dodgy, can be difficult to work with the liftgate.

Do a search for 1UpUSA hitch racks. They have a lot of options to choose from and they make the number 1 hitch bike rack carrier in the market. With that said, you might also like to look at the Thule roof cases. They have a lot of options there too.

Funny enough, I started looking at Thule this weekend. The Motion XL looks like a solid choice - I'm going to try to find a local dealer to see it in person. Thanks!

I once owned a Thule Alpine carrier box, which sat on my W212 for a few months a year when we used to go skiing. The Alpine, while it is already the most aero (with dimples) still made a drag once you hit certain speeds. I could feel the drag while on the highways, and the whistling noise from the box was annoying. Moreover, it totally blocked the panorama roof. So removed that box when I did not need it, and it was a pain to store in the garage due to the big size.

The hitch rack, on the other hand, which I also have, was less bothersome and much easier to load stuff. The 1UPUSA hitch has a lot of adjustability and you could actually still open your trunk lid, by lowering the hitch. So just keep those few notes in mind when you decide.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll take a look. Do you have a particular luggage bag / container that you use with the hitch rack?

I love my hitch tray. I've used it over the past six years to carry hay, gas cans, luggage, building supplies, etc. It's made by Hitch-Haul. Sold at Walmart for $92, but I bought mine elsewhere.
It does wobble a tiny bit, but not enough to be a concern.
I can open the hatch with it installed.
My Parktronic sensors don't like it, so I turn them off when I use it.
