17 recalls and counting
Received a notification letter this week from M-B recalling my 2020 GLS 450 for a potentially faulty ground on the 48 volt system and potential fire hazard. This presumably explains some of the 48 volt system failures reported on this forum. While it poses a safety risk, no parts are currently available to fix the defect. This is this sixth recall out of seventeen thus far for the 2020 GLS that specifically applied to my vehicle.
Also, the OEM Cooper Tires wore out in less than 12,000 mile (rotated at 7,000 miles) and Mercedes offered no assistance or compensation.
So this is "the best or nothing". Unfortunately, this is my first experience with Mercedes and it will be my last.

Sorry to hear of your experience; you are part of a large family in this regard.
Almost better than nothing is more accurate.
Sadly the 167 platform launch fell short in many ways. That is putting it in gentle terms. The 48V system in particular was stillborn and DOA.
For me 167 vehicles are a strong avoid and “do not buy” until well after the facelift, if ever.

17 recalls? I have a 2020 that is approaching 50k miles already, and other than a couple of annoying defects of assembly (drivers window trim, hvac blower motor had a piece of plastic wrap still stuck on it), it’s been just fine, we love it, and we have never received any type of recall notice, nor has one been seen by our mechanic who is piped into the MB network. So I’m a little surprised to hear you say 17? Is yours one of those very very first ones that came out with the different style headlights?

My 2020 GLS 450 was assembled in November 2019. Six of seventeen recalls thus far have affected the vehicle.

The new GLS is clearly not a pillar of reliability and I feel bad for those that have had numerous problems. I think a number of people have also had no or few/minor problems though, so it isn't all bad.

No doubt there are a number of people who have had some reliability problems and some recalls. That said, 17 recalls, while technically correct, is a little misleading. For example, one of the recalls effected 3 cars. Not 3 models, 3 total vehicles. A few others are also less than 200, so no one is seeing 17 recalls on their cars. A couple were fixed via OTA software updates, so still technically a recall, most of us didn't even pay attention to it.

I've corrected it for you.
