Collision Detected
People leave the air show early to beat the traffic so I assumed that someone had hit my car trying to get out of the cramped parking area. I immediately headed for the gate to see what my car was fussing about with my heart in my throat. When I found it in the parking lot it was completely intact. In fact, the car in front of it was still there, although the cars on either side had left. Nothing happened to it.
In years past, I learned that riding my Harley through a parking garage was great fun, as the sound pressure coming from the loud pipes would set off numerous car alarms. Since I have no damage, I believe that the sound pressure from the magnificent F/A-18 Super Hornets passing over at low altitude set off the 580's collision detection alert and caused me to leave the airshow a little early. Has anyone had a similar experience with the collision detection warning?
Think your car just reacted to the noise of the jets passing overhead.
Could have been worse. Years ago I was on 58 highway west of Barstow CA on my way to Bakersfield and beyond. Just tooling along enjoying the drive. Heard a noise. It quickly became louder and had me scanning the dash for any signs of problems. No signs of any problems. In less time than it takes to type this the noise was quite a bit louder and getting a bit scary. Thought the car was running on its wheels rather than tires, and had lost its mufflers. At this point I felt the noise as much as heard it. Just about to slow down and pull over when a shadow passed over the car and then the jet. The jet shot out over the front of the car low enough I felt I could have touched the jet. Some jet pilot from Edwards Air Force Base buzzed my car.
I had attended air shows at various northern CA airports and even attended the air show held during Fleet Week in SF CA and never experienced anything like I experienced on 58 highway that day.
