Driving a 2022 GLS 450 - and very recently started using Apple CarPlay and noticed in one install carplay maps were showing up in Heads up display and in 2nd instance they were not. I am not sure if only regular navigation maps show up in Heads up display or Car Play maps too and if there is a setting I need to activate. Please advise.

With CarPlay, you will only get the driving directions in the heads up display. Also, these are only displayed when using Apple Maps, Google or Waze not supported. Even the diving directions are not as detailed as what you get with the in-build navigation but just what you see in the corner of Apple Map.

With Apple CarPlay, Google Maps cannot be enabled in the Heads Up Display. But Apple Maps seems to be enabled normally. I've only heard others say it, but I haven't tried it. You can see if this is the case.
