How Smart is Speed Limit System?
Hi folks. I've got a newish 2022 GLS 450 with the Driving Assist+ package. When switched on, the system will adjust the car's speed to match the speed limit. It does this by reading the roadside signs with its cameras as I understand. The system works great with only very occasional misses, and I love it.
I've noticed a few times that after turning onto a new road, and before passing any speed limit sign, the system sometimes appears to already know the speed limit. I'm wondering if in addition to reading the speed limit signs, the system also combines and saves the speed limit info with GPS location data, thereby allowing it to know the limit in the future in the absence of a sign. Maybe I'm giving it too much credit, but if it doesn't do this, then I'm wondering how it acts as it does.
Speed Limit Assist uses information from the Nav system combined with the detected signs. Don't know that you need to be a 'keen observer", the MB videos mention this and it is in the manual (although under sign assist which the Speed Limit Assist section directs you to). From the manual:
