Dashcam activation (with U19 present)

Hello All, great forum and first post here.

Some background info: GLS has U19 MBUX Augmented Video for Navigation and the actual DashCam is installed behind the windshield. Under System -> Dashcam, screen says: Deactivated.

There is a similar thread in another forum where the person managed to do this on GLB. Paid some fee through mercedes.me app and got the dealership to do software update (https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/...solved.279546/).

Anybody went through the process of activating the Dashcam feature?

Unfortunately, MBUSA has decided to not offer dashcam activation on older MBUX vehicles. There is no way around it either.

Thanks @Eaton Weird why this has been decided as it should be software update only having in mind the hardware is already present.

I think there were quality concerns. Overseas customers have reported it's not a very good / stable app. It got better in MBUX v2, and you can purchase it in the Mercedes me Store for those cars.

This makes sense @Eaton Assuming then 2020 GLS does not run MBUX v2 by default, or would never support it.

The 2024 facelift GLS will have it.

Surprised to hear current MBUX dash cam feature is being buggy or not in a proper workable condition. This means it still makes sense to install an external dashcam system then

They allow post-factory dashcam activation in NTG7 cars (new S-Class, C-Class, EQS, etc) presumably because the updated dashcam works much better and they are comfortable marketing it. The NTG6 version isn't that great and they probably didn't want to deal with upset customers or refunds.

But in other countries, 549 + U19 is indeed the prerequisite to get it.

Thanks! Was just considering that, as it was an option for the 2022 during ordering.

It must be less than optimal quality for them to not consider activating it at Mercedes Me store.

DASHCAM not in Mercedes me connect. coming from eqs sedan to 2020GLS :_)
So this thread basically says the above, cant use the built in camera under rear view mirror as dashcam on app or for accident report :-( ??? so that camera is for AR only which I dont care....???

Also while here no ac control beside remote start stop and lock unlock within Mercedes me connect??

Yeah, I know what you are talking about. No option to purchase dash cam in USA, unfortunately...

maybe need to check with MB wizards that do, delete auto stop, enable browser in motion , etc :-) if they have a solution

The Dashcam on my 2024 has finally allowed me to ditch my external cam.

It auto records at every start. It overlays date time and GPS coords. And it smartly records to the empty space on my existing USB music drive. When it runs out of space it will loop over and won't erase anything else on the drive.

There is an app that lets you watch the video right on the screen and you can even filter by event like if it was triggered by the internal motion sensor when parked.

The quality is not perfect but its more than enough to no longer need another cam.

Thats great news, thanks for sharing. Finally this has been fixed, when u say quality is not perfect what is it 720p?

I think the S-Class upgraded it to 1080p with the new-gen MBUX. Not sure if it's carried over here, but it's possible.

Thats full 1080p HD resolution, should be good enough to observe details.

Thanks to this thread, I just purchased the $200 dash cam option from my 2024 GLS450’s center screen. I’ll follow up once I’ve had a chance to use it.
