Verbal Traffic Warning on GLS 450

I've had my 2023 GLS 450 since August 6th. Today while driving, I got an alert saying 'Traffic event ahead". It came on 3 different times. I never saw a traffic event and I also haven't set up any system that would warn me like that (that I am aware of). Where is it coming from? I'm still learning the car, but it is strange that this happened after 3 months of never hearing it before.

Those are traffic announcement. They can be turned off. They are coming from the live traffic and car-to-x data. Drivers can report issues as well similar to Waze and just like Waze the report often ends up being outdated by the time you are driving through. I get them periodically, but most times the event has already cleared.

Newer models even detect potholes and speed bumps and automatically send this information to the cloud and then in your car it is announced as a traffic event.

Thank you for the information and for the link. I think I want to disable this system, but maybe I should wait and try to get used to it.

They can be kinda helpful. Admittedly the generic traffic event announcement is not very helpful, but it also announces congestions up ahead. I find this quite useful when I don't have active route guidance, so I can exit the highway and take the backroads.

Get used to what? Not enough info to know what’s going on!

Waze is at least specific about what’s coming up.
