Trickle Charger for 2021 GLS 450?
Hi - we are putting our ‘21 GLS 450 in garage for the winter. Wife wants to drive her EQS 580 for the winter. I have put my AMG GTC on trickle charger. I understand GLS doesn't have a conventional battery. What's the recommended way to keep this not go flat for the winter? I am also checking with my SA for his advise.

The GLS has both an AGM 12v battery and the 48v lithium battery. Use a standard 12v AGM charger for the 12v battery. It's not 100% clear if the 48v battery is charged while the 12v battery is charging but if it is it will be by the car's internal modules since there is no way to charge a 48v lithium battery with a 12v charger. It's not that big of an issue though as lithium batteries won't self discharge like their lead based counterparts.

Thank you. This is very helpful. Can this be charged with a 12 volt outlet in the trunk? Or should the trickle charger leads be connected to the battery? (And any idea where is the battery in this car?)

Hook them up to the jumper connectors under hood. Your manual will probably help you find the negative post along with the nearby positive connection underneath a sliding red cover.
My charging points are in slightly different locations under the hood, but you'll easily identify them. Look for the RED positive, which is concealed under a sliding cover. Then find the ground post nearby, for the negative.
I highly recommend the CTEK MXS 5.0 battery maintainer.

The 12v battery is under the driver's seat. As noted there are jump posts under the hood that can be used. If you find a power outlet that is always powered, you could use it with a maintainer that will charge at 10 amps or less. The trick will be finding an always on outlet. Other option would be to wire in a plug to a constant 12v source.
