Highway Mileage

Individual Mode with all Sport and ECO. Consistently see 28-29 mpg on longer highway trips. Pleasantly surprised.

Congrats on mileage. I have tracked mpg of the 17,106 miles driven since I bought my 20 GLS via the Fuelly app. My best strictly highway mileage (I'm usually in Comfort mode) has been 26 mpg. Usually get 24 or so. But at a higher average speed that your 59.

We would get better milage if we drove slower. If all goes well our average speed is around 70 for 450 miles. Increasing speed from 60 - 65 to 70+ really starts to suck down fuel. 45 - 55 really is ideal for milage but it's sloooooow.

I recently did a 6400 mile coast-to-coast road trip and averaged 27 mpg. Much of the trip was at 70 or 80 mph on open Interstates out West. Excellent when compared t my old GL 450 which could barely do 21 if memory serves.

My average speed was probably skewed a bit by a two-lane backwoods highway in Maine with a 30-50mph limit.
I've done other all-highway and seen 27-28mpg. Better than I was expecting so I'll take it.

Anyone do the transmission recall and notice a slight reduction in fuel economy (especially in city driving)? The engine subjectively seems smoother but objectively worse via calculating mpg at the pump (trip miles / gallons filled at station).

It's not explicitly stated, but I assume these are v6 mileage numbers?

With the 2024 v8, it's around 15 mpg for me in city driving and 19-21 on the highway.

Anyone see a difference between displayed mileage versus actual mileage using odometer, and tank filling receipt?

Yes, the Mercedes reported number for me is normally 1-2 mpg more optimistic than a straight calculation at the pump vs trip mileage.

That’s a bit low compared to my 2024 63. I’m averaging between a round trip to/from Denver International Airport and Breckenridge around 24-25mpg. Going in down to Denver around 29-31 and back up around 20-21. Typically C or ind tailored modes. If notice the 4cyl derate plus coast/sail mode at play often.

also confirmed numbers with manual calculation post fueling. I like what I see.

We're nearing 71k miles (70,861), and overall since day one, our average per the app is 23.1 MPG's with an average speed of 28 MPH. We've driven the equivalent of 3 months, 15 days, 15 hours, 36 minutes. We continue to routinely see 28mpg+ on highway cruises.

My 2024 Ford Bronco with the 2.7 twin turbo v6 is averaging 15mpg with less than 400 miles on it by comparison...

Your Bronco makes me feel better about the MPGs (15.5 in the MB app and my Fuelio app is 15.4 so the MB app is pretty accurate for me) on my GLE 580 but definitely not your 450. Thankfully I only drive around 5k miles each year.

We just did a trip to Greensboro NC and back to the DC-Area, my best MPG was 20.5mpg and that was during the descent from the 600ft elevation above sea level to DC Metro's 150ft above sea level....so basically down hill for 4hrs.

This is the first vehicle I've owned where it is actually hard to beat the stated HWY MPG.

What was your driving style during that trip? Were you trying to hyper mile?

No, I kept it at 9mph over whatever the speed limit was. The posted MPH ranged mostly between 60mph and 65mph

You’re a V8 580 right? Did you do the I-81 route?

we’ve done that route as well, Loudoun to Greensboro via 81. In the 450 we seem to be in the 27-28mpg area via cruise on 81. Now coming back and climbing up to 81, is a different story.

I took the 29/360 route. I think it will soon be called the 785 corridor. Easy cruising no traffic.....for now.

I think I was on 95 for only 18 miles which was stop and go here and there.

And yes, we drove the 580.
