Advice on a 21 GLS 450
Hi, I have my eye on a 2021 model with 32k miles on it, good maintenance record, I am just wondering what to look after when seeing the car in real world, which is tmr.
And how reliable is the 48v battery? I don't see any service on the 48v from Carfax, so I guess it's been working good?
And how reliable is the air suspension? how much life I should expect under normal use?
Thank you so much for your input in advance!
Mike

You're asking the wrong question. The question you should be asking is "Do you like the vehicle enough to accept the potential for issues?" All modern vehicles can have issues, especially the more complex ones. Will they? No one knows. Even the manufacturers can't tell you which specific ones will have issues. There certainly CAN be issues related to the 48v system or the air suspension but no one has a crystal ball to tell them if a vehicle will or will not. Some here will say to run from all the 48v vehicles, others have no issues at all. They haven't been on the road long enough to determine overall longevity. By the time they have, people and manufacturers will have moved on to the "new thing" and the same questions about reliability of the "new thing" will be asked.

If you buy this vehicle set aside cash to address the 48V system or buy a warranty that specifically includes coverage on the 48V system.

Also in some states the 48v battery falls into emissions parts and has an extended warranty beyond the 4yrs/50k mi.
All the Germans are using 48v (VAG, BMW) in their powertrains. Fiat used it in a Ram. Tesla uses it in the cyber truck. Lexus in the Rx. Land Rover with the Range Rover. Bentley with the Bentyaga. Hyundai in the Tucson. It would be nice if they began to standardize these batteries.

The 48V system is no issue for most people, but some have lemons. As has been said elsewhere, budget 2-3 grand or buy insurance.
