Gotta love it. The dealership called yesterday to let me know they ordered the wrong windshield. Another 2 months of waiting.

You should take a pic of the "wrong windshield". I bet it looks like mine with a hefty markup! LOL!

Let's see: 2 months of waiting puts us in Jan (sounds about right)!

New glass has been doing ok so far but it hasn't seen any heavy precip yet.

One strange thing happened recently: while I was driving the GLS on the highway, my wife and I both felt the seat belt tighten against our bodies, which I believe is part of the PRESAFE mechanism. Odd thing was we were not in any danger and there was no collision alarm before the tightening.

Is there any chance the Safelite calibration may have messed up the PRESAFE routine?

Pot hole by chance? I have had this happen to me occasionally if I hit one or a road seam just right. There is actually one I hit every day on the way home that sometimes will activate it and sometimes won't. Doesn't seem to follow any particular pattern either.

Even if you don't recall or can't attribute it to anything in particular I don't think in and of itself that it's anything to worry about. Also, when this happens to me it doesn't trigger the alarm either. I think maybe the alarm only comes on under a particular speed but don't quote me on that.

There was no pothole prior to activation but we did hit a nasty one on a local road days before!

Thanks for the feedback!

This is commonly known as phantom braking. In your case it didn't result all the way in the automatic emergency braking activating. This happens when the system picks something up through the camera that it then mistakes for an obstacle in your path. All of these systems can occasionally have such a false positive. Could be a tree or a bush on the side of the road moving in the wind, but it could also be light artifacts and that's where potential differences in the optical quality of the glass comes in. Light could have been refracted in such a way as to produce a phantom image that the system then briefly mistook for an obstacle, possibly in combination with dirt on the windshield etc. If it happens once in a blue moon, then you can just write it off as an occasional false positive as they happen, but if it starts to occur much more frequently than before, then it's potentially caused by the windshield, or it could also be debris left in the camera housing or something from the installation. When I first had the windshield replaced on my current car, there was something floating around in the camera housing afterwards. I brought the car back and they removed it and redid the calibration.

The GLS hasn't had a car wash since the replacement but I don't recall PRESAFE ever activating prior to the replacement.
Thanks for additional insight!

Replaced this past summer at the dealer, by the dealer.

As I've said before, the signature sticker is a separate part number. You can put it on your side glass if you want. It's not indicative of OE.
Unless that has changed but I don't think so.
Does this have the pinkish tint to it? If it does, do you know if the MB part # is 167 670 5501?

I need new glass and I think Safelite is trying to give me the wrong glass because the one they have for my replacement is definitely not pink. My current broken glass match this exactly except mine says 22 instead of 21 which I assume is just the model year. If you or anyone else knows if this glass matches that part # I would appreciate that info before I call safelite back.

I wouldn't call it pinkish. I'd have to find my work order to verify the #, but I can't right now. My car is black.
You are correct to ask - there are different tints that I hadn't noticed before.
The only way I know to verify if it's the correct glass is have the parts department look it up by VIN.
Give Parts a call and ask of the Safelite glass is correct.

BTW I was wrong about the separate Daimler decal on my post that you quoted. It's in/on the glass now.

I don't really know what to call it either but it's not clear I guess is my point. And when I showed up for the appointment the tech and I both agreed it did not appear to be the same windshield but I needed to talk to someone else about that and she wasn't there and blah blah blah and when she called back she insisted it was the right one and wants me to take it. She also said that maybe it will turn pink after I drive for a while. To which I said, like my windshield would get a sun tan somehow? LMAO. I was trying to avoid calling the dealer but I guess I'm gonna have to. I appreciate the feedback.
