From: Edmonds... good bye SD
Copper got an "S"

Yesturday i was on my way from San Francisco back to San Diego. Left at 5a.m. to avoid traffic and make good time so make fathers day dinner.

On the drive, i was fortunate to have a fairly wide open I-5. Hit the governored 133 miles per hour in my C320 coupe without having to add much throttle. Car glided amazingly well and felt sturdy and safe.

Thats the positive... All morning long i was cruising at a nice clip typically between 85 and 100. Although a pack of cars went by that I figured i could join and make some "better time"

car #1... S420, car #2 me in a C320 coupe, car #3 toyota Celica, car #4 Honda minivan (amazingly enough, i will never know why or how soccer mom kept up)

All 4 of us were crusing as a pack for about 1/2 hour, and were only about 1 hour north of the grapevine all pushing between 110 and 120+ when suddenly a state patrol goes passing on the opposite side of the freeway.

Mr. Officer immediatly hit his brakes, made a U-turn over the grass median and began his quest to get us. I saw the trooper, hit the brakes and started pulling the triptronic gears down, and went behind a semi-truck, as well as the celica, and soon after the honda would join.

The S420, i don't think he even had a clue, he sped away at 120+ trooper flew past us an a very impressive speed, and within 45 seconds we could see the RED BLUE ahead, he was caught fair and square.

by the time we reached the S and cop, the patrolman was already at his window, not too happy looking. The drivers of the S coupe were probably late 20's of an asian descent.... and totally screwed.

Not sure what the fine is, but ohhh, thats seriously gotta hurt! Slowed me down, I can sure say that!

A V1 detector works great on that stretch. I make that same drive often and tend to move with packs as you describe and I can always pick the CHP up about 1.5-2miles away if he's oncoming. Usually people in the pack see that I've got the detector so when I slow down, they do too. Too bad there are ones like the s430 driver who do not pay attention.

Wow...too bad the S430 driver was a tard. usually when someone in the pack slows I follow them....then if my V1 says its all clear...I bust past them. Not too many people pass me in the CLK...I'm usually the one in the front of the pack. Hope that doesn't sound too snotty.

It doesnt. Partially because we all do it, and partially because your placement in "the pack" has little to do with the power of your car once you reach a certain threshhold above which not many people want to go. I used to regularly make 3 hour drives without being passed by a single car, through Virginia, where the police are terrible. Its more about your willingness to speed than about performance specs.

True...and I'm always willing to speed!
Unless my girl yells at me to slow down.

I usually stay in the middle of the pack unless I think people are going too slow. Recently, traffic has been flowing at about 90 in NC on I-40.

/really thought this thread was about a Cooper S.
