Ok. So I am on my way to the local Electronics mega store in my new '05 C55, with 400 miles on it, and I notice a brand new vette pull out onto the road aggressively. I pull up to the light next to him even though this is my turn. He was in the right lane, I was in the left lane. I look over at him but he does not look at me. I turn off the AC, put it into M and wait for the green light. Nothing but open 2 lane straight road ahead of us.

Light turns green and I accelerate aggressively but do not floor it. He doesn’t take the bait. I look back and he is pretty far back. He must of taken it real slow off the line. I never got above 50 none the less. We are in a 45 mph zone. As I look up from checking how far back he is I see Johnny law coming in the other direction. Thank god he did not take the bait or we would have been deservedly busted.

So I change lanes in front of him because I need to make a right turn. I notice another red light up ahead. As I am about to get into the turning lane something funny happens, he changed lanes to line up next to me. So I stayed in the right lane, not the turning lane.

At the light I look over at him again. This time he returns my look. I also notice that his wife is in te car.

When the light turns green I hit it hard but not full throttle. I wanted to see if he was coming too. He was. I push the accelerator through the floor.

1st gear his nose is at my drivers side rear door....5900 rpm I hit the shift button. I guess I wasn’t fast enough with the shift because the engine died a little and the nose dropped hard. At this point his nose is at my front wheel. Then BAM 2nd gear and I am pulling again. His nose is back at my rear drivers side door and smoothly sliding back.

At this point I am pulling on him and I shut it down as we are approaching traffic. I don’t know if it was because he didn’t know how to drive or the extra weight from his wife or what but man that was FUN!!!

We both made a right hand turn on to a one lane road so we never got next to each other again. I took the next exit for a 4 lane in each direction road but he did not follow.

So that is my first kill.

 

Guess the dealership telling you not to floor it for the first 1000 miles was out the window? You risk serious damage hammering it like that before the mandatory break in period with an AMG car... Be careful.

 

Sounds like you hit the rev-limiter in first gear. You'll fare better in future races by leaving it in 'D' and letting the computers optimize your shift points.

Yeah was a moment of weakness. Besides this one incident I am very carefull and usually drive with the car in "comfort" mode.
