raced a gti

raced my friends vw gti modded with chip, exhaust, and that wosh sound it makes when he changed gears. i think it also has turbo or its stock turbo. but anyway two lane highway (palisades parkway) I was following him as he gunned it. It felt like I was having a hard time catching up. as the lanes cleared i switch to the right side and easily flew by him. Funny though I felt like I couldnt catch up to him when i was following. I was racing on c mode. dont know if that makes a difference

C is comfort mode, that means you start out in 2nd rather than 1st gear.

Careful careful, turbo VW/Audis can be MEAN when modded. Depending on the year, that chip alone (AWE Tuning's numbers) can add up to 55hp, yes, modding stock FI engines is foolishly easy.

i sort of raced a GTI friday night from maybe 10mph to 60mph...he pulled a little at the start but then it was steady. neither of us was sure if the other wanted to race so we both let off for a second or two. that thing made some sick shifts though! i guess their power is seen easier +60?

interesting... 55 hp? i wonder how the mpg is affected by that jump. and i think you would have stayed with him easier if you weren't in c mode.. but you were on the freeway and already past second gear, so that may be a little odd.

Yeh, the main thing that boosting that much will do is really work the stock turbine. I know alot of the B5 S4s with chips and stock turbos have had turbine problems, the stock K03 turbos cant handle the extra boost. I'd imagine that the GTI's turbo would handle the boost better though. I think that the turbos really kick in from about 30-100mph on most cars because it gets spooled around there and then starts to loose its effect at the top end.
