Black E46 M3 w/ Virginia Plates on NJTP vs. my CLK55
So I'm driving on south on NJTP last night and I see a set of HIDs come up fast behind me. Not thinking too much of it, I squeeze the throttle and pull ahead a bit. It follows. Hmm, I weave through about 3 cars in medium traffic. It follows. I back off the gas and let him pull next to me and then ahead...it's an E46 M3.
Next thing I know it's on, like Donkey Kong. We start this cat/mouse chase at around exit 11 southbound on NJTP. Next thing I know we're weaving in/out and every change he gets, the M3 driver tried to pull on me. EVERY SINGLE time he weaves ahead of me, I catch right up. EVERY SINGLE time I pull next to him, I pull on him enough that he can't catch up. At one point, I pulled on him so much that I thought he backed off. Eventually, I put on my hazards and called off the game (it got hairy at one point when both of us tried to swerve into the same open spot).
I've seen the posted 0-60 and 1/4 mile times on the E46 M3 and the W209 CLK55 and was expecting the guy to be dead-on with me. I was very surprise that at "speed" the CLK just pulls so hard on the M3.
At a couple spots, I got behind the M3 and noticed it has VA plates. Whomever you are out there, that was a close one out there...but now you know (as do I) that there is "No replacement for displacement".
Cheers.
Oh yes, there was this White G35 who tried to get in the game. Too bad by the time his 3.5 liter "VQ" six started making some power, we were already 10 car lengths ahead. Guy with the White G35, please don't bother racing M3s, CLKs, 911s, and the like. You'll just get verification that you're really just driving around a rear-wheel drive Altima coupe.
