What's your best speeding ticket story?

Post your best speeding ticket story here.

Whether you talked your way out of a speeding ticket, got one doing 150, or have another good speeding ticket story, post it here.

In 1987, I was pulled over in my RX7 Turbo II doing 127 in a 45....by three cop cars.

A few years later, a cop followed me in my Ferrari Mondial convertible for about three miles. I used my turn signals, never exceeded the speed limit, etc., etc... He pulled me over, walked up to to me and said, "You didn't do anything wrong, I was just admiring your car. Is this the new Fiero?"

After not having gotten a ticket in years, I got a ticket doing ten miles over the limit on the way home after buying my CL.

I know you guys must have better speeding ticket stories than that.

Post them here.

Back when I was attending UT Austin, I decided to go back home for the weekend. I left real late, and at around 1AM a cop had followed me (my Escort radar never went off), and pulled me over for doing 70 on a 55. They asked me to get out of the car, and instructed me to put my hands to my sides. They were big guys - both were over 6 ft, and over 200 pounds. Their hands were over their holsters as they talked to me. The thing is I was wearing a t-shirt, and shorts - not any type of clothings that one would be suspicious of any weapons underneath. In addition, I am only 5' 2", and at that time, I only weighed 125 pounds. I just thought it was funny how they were overly cautious. And, yes, I am clean cut, and didn't sport any ganster clothing or sign. And, also yes, I got the ticket - I didn't even bother trying to talk my way out of it.

I suspect with the E500, you likely will have more speeding ticket stories...that is unless you possess the restraint of a Tibetan monk.

Late June , 1982 - I am driving a beige 1970 Pontiac Tempest - GTO look-a-like , with Blackjack mufflers and open headers.A buddy of mine is following me in a old Chevy 2 door Malibu. We are going down a two lane residential street ( I know , stupid move ) when he jumps out and floors it and passes me.I jump on my car and catch him and as I pass him I look over and he starts laughing and hits the brakes and turns off.Well, I turn around and look up ahead and there is what was laughing at - a cop 100 yards ahead sitting there with his lights blazing.I think " this is great" . I pull over and he pulls up behind me and asks for my credentials. He recognizes my address and says " Your dad is a Trooper , right?" and I say "no, thats my next door neighbor" , he replies "stay in the vehicle".He returns with my paperwork and says"You know why I pulled you over" I reply "yes sir" he says "85 MPH in a 15 MPH zone - what are you nuts? You could have killed someone." He then replies"Are you graduating (High School) in a couple of days?I reply "yes sir" he then says " Here is your graduation present ( hands me a WARNING!) if I catch you again you'll be walking for 6 months - have a nice day".

Pulled over for 85 in a 15....impressive. Not getting a speeding ticket after getting pulled over for 85 in a 15....really impressive!

Your current vehicle suggests you still have the speed bug. I don' think you would be as lucky today talking your way out of an 85 in a 15.

My luck now is ALOT better.I have 2 brother-in-laws - 1 NJ State Trooper and the other is a local cop.Short of having my own badge it doesn't get any better - and yes, I have the speed bug.

Was pulled over in my GT2 racing 2 Z06s on ventura blvd doing well over 120mph. I was lucky the cop was going the opposite way and didnt radar me and had to estimate speed. After drawing guns on me ect they ended up being nice guys and wrote me up for 65 in a 35 but I still had to go to the judge to get traffic school and I got it. WHeeeew. When pulled over I asked why you pulled me over and not one of the two vettes. The cop said because you won.

I've only had two tickets in my short 24 years of life, both of them during the eight months I lived in Houston. The first one I got was going to down to visit a friend of mine in Katy, Tx. I was on one of those 2 lane median-divided roads in the middle of what was soon to be a large housing development, but currently wasn't, it was just this nice curb-medianed two lane divided road. Speed limit was 45 at the last sign I saw. Long story short, Harris County constable comes out of nowhere and I get a ticket for 47 in a 30! Where the hell that 30 MPH sign was, I will never know. Anyway, I was on my way to the first day of defensive driving for the first ticket and I got lost. Had to bust a U-Turn to go the opposite direction when I finally figured out where I was and where I needed to go. Long story short, busted for 60 in a 40. Never got in trouble with speeding since, save for a warning on SH 137 out in West Texas once. But the funniest one was after all that happened, I was on the Sam Houston Tollway doing 90 in a 60 one day. I loved to do this near interchanges such as the one I was coming upon, cause cops don't usually sit there. Anyway, got pulled over by HPD and once pulled over I could tell the cop didn't want to hassle with anyone like me that day, so he quickly starting asking the usual questions: "Do you know how fast you were going?" etc. I told him the truth, that I was speeding, the specifics of which I left out, and he gave me an out. He said "So you need to use the bathroom real bad right?". I said "Yes sir.", befuddled. He then says: "Next exit up there's a Chevron station, don't let this happen again.". Me: "Thank you sir, have a nice day."

@1987 I was traveling along route 87 in NY doing @85 @10:30pm in a rental car, came upon a dark stretch of road and was cruising along fine, I look over to my right and there is a State Trooper pacing me with no lights on completely dark! Once I saw him which scared the hell out of me he imediately turns on his radar gun, lights, siren the works! My detector goes off way to late! and he puills me over, gets out of his car laughing...says that I should have seen my face when I spotted him "Yeah Right I'm thinking" tells me that he was riding right next to me for a few miles before I spotted him. ticket cost a days work and $345. That just ain't right!

Going twice the post limit. passing a cop on the side road, i pulled into where i wanted to go and was out of my car half way to the store when he pulled up and told me get back to my car. To tops things off i forgot my wallet and didnt have my license with me. He tried to say i was going 65 but as soon as he said that i was like yes!!! he didnt have his radar on cuse i was going 25mph+ what he said. Got a long 10 min talk about speeded on surface streets and he let me go. I was surprised that i got off cuse i didnt have my license or any prof that the car was mine, he just ran the plates and let me go.

The road i was on has farm land on either side but he was sitting behind a big truck and i didnt see him untill i blew by him. To this day when ever anyone asks have i been pulled over they think i am joking about this story but luckily i had 3 friends with me and all doubts go away when they ask them.

Heres a story for you

Some time ago ( I 4get ) I was on a return trip from picking up my brother from the otherside of town. As we get closer to home ( on the highway ) I noticed a car with xenon lights weaving in and out of traffic ( just begging for someone to come up and challenge him ) So me being the person that I am , I made my way through traffic , flew by him (silver clk430) jumped in ( the middle ) his lane and applied my brakes just enough to **** him off At this time I was cruising at about 80 mph I knew I would get a reaction so i figured he would be coming strong ( was about five car lengths behind if my memory serves correct ) . Keeping my eyes in the rear view I noticed that he switched lanes and was coming strong .... All I could see was that beautiful mercedes face with those bright eyes coming for me . And as he got to the rear of my car I slammed the gas hoping I could pass him down the road ! Now all I can do is wait ... Speedo hits 90......hits 100.....oh *****.....110.....aww damn.....115.....remembering that i was chilling with mob marley earlier....120......i pass him ......130....damn hes still there.....140...OK my exit is coming up ....... So I exit off and just to rub it in I turn off all my lights (have a black car)to let him know I shut him down and that I knocked his lights out ( somewhat ) And as i turn my lights on ? You guessed right , those red and blues turned on ! Oh damn what to do ! I thought for a sec to keeping going being that the other driver was behind me but, I knew that wouldnt be wise ! So I pull over to the left and the other driver pulls over to the right..... Cop tells me to get infront of him . And I'm thinking yeah you know who won buddy So lets see 140 in a 55 = not good ! By this time I turned to the Gospel station ( because I need a prayer for this one ) and the cop comes up and ask for my info ! I give to him and I see the other driver pull off ! I thinking OK lets get it on ( I will be the one to go down for all of this ) . He comes back to the car and tell me all the laws we broke and how he was basically trying to catch up to us the entire time , and that I was free to go !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess that prayer came in handy.... Will I do it again ? Not in my car I wont , maybe on the motorcycle

Unhappy Ticket in Chicago...

Got a ticket the first day I picked up my S55 from Loeber Mercedes in Chitown; Hwy 90 speed limit 65; I was so busy playing with the instruments.. didn't even notice a 5-O behind me. Her later told me he had been following me for quite some time. Gave me a ticket doing 94 in a 65; Said he could have given me a ticket for doing the actual 98... Had NJ license... Insurance went up.... bummer!!!!

The other ticket I got was on Hwy 5 and Jamboree in Irvine, CA recently. This a**hole pulled me over; gave me a ticket for reckless driving, not wearing a seat belt, passing on the right, and speeding!! (22 miles over the limit) Had to hire a lawyer; paid the fines (~700including the court and lawyer fee); On top of that got a huge lecture from my wife... As if that's the last thing I needed!!

I had gotten a similar ticket in Long Island right off the southern state parkway back in the days (1990-1991) Driving a twin-turbo Rx-7 coming back from riverhead... 55 MPH speed limit going @ 110MPH and passed an unmarked chevy caprice... Soon as he started following me, I knew I was in trouble... It's a 2-seater car but I had my buddy in it with his GF sitting on his lap... obviously not wearing a seat belt... expired registration... tinted windows (more than 35% allowed at the time in NY) and had a cool switch blade in the car (I collect knives); The rest is history.... Got arrested... spent an hour in jail... car got towed... friend bailed me out for $100; Finally got it cleard from my record $5000 and 6 months later... NY cops are also a**holes!!

Long time ago (1970) Malibu (Coast Hiway) running my 427 Corvette upwards of 125 on an empty stretch. Saw red lites way, way, way back. Finally slowed and stopped. Waited for what seemed like an eternity. Hiway Patrol wheezes to a stop, sputtering and blowing steam. The old Dodge 440. Very angry. From the other direction a LA County sheriff comes roaring in and boxes me in.

The sheriff gets out, listens to the CHP yelling how he couldn't catch me and had to use Motorola to get help (the Sheriff). The sheriff starts laughing, looks at the CHP and says "look's like you have a problem with your car" turns to me and says "what are you running in the vette?" We chat while the CHP cools off, writes me up for 89. Malibu courthouse and a fine...expensive, but the interagency rivalry...priceless.

i dont have a "best" i have a few...

1) illegal lane change... first ticket ever... cop said i was tryin to evade him after i turned into a neighborhood to pull over... i was shocked as hell... heart pounding, tears flowing... got ticketed... 3 points

2) 78 in a 55... on I-275... state trooper... maybe if i gave an excuse i could of gone out, but i just said idk y i was speed... ... got the ticket... but took class... 0 points

3) 62 in a 45... idk where i got gunned from, but the motorcycle cops chases me down, shows me the gun, gives me the ticket... 4 points

4) 60 in a 45... ambush... about 5 cops parked in a funeral home... one or two gun, others writing tickets... i get gunned... cop walks infront of my car, and tells me to turn into the funeral home... and tickets me right there... got lawyer and ticket thrown out... 0 points

5) "65" in a 45... at 2 am, i over take a car on a 2 lane road (dotted yellow)... i assume the cop did too and approximated my speed and pulled me over... no ticket... 0 points

6) driving 12 am... switch lanes, see a cop coming speeding behind, so i quickly switch out of his way w/o signaling... main goal: get out of his way... he lines up next to me, looks in car... waits a bit, pulls me over... wanted to make sure i wasnt drunk...

7) emergency drive at 2 am to the convience store we own... dad wasnt home by 2am... mother was worried... wasnt speeding, just driving with beams on... no license on me... cop lets me go with warning as he sees my terrified mother in the passenger seat... 0 points

8) 55 in a 45... once again, cop walks out infront of my car... however simply gives me a no proof of insurance ticket (7.50)... 0 points

other than those, i cant think of any more... pullovers 1 - 7 all in my red rav4 ("cop attracter")... all while i was 16... pullover 8 in the c230... a few months back... but i am getting better...

OH YEAH! 3 points (from ticket 1) + 4 points (ticket 3) = 7 points... 6+ points under the age of 18 = restricted license... business/school/work only... hmmm, def breaking that rule... insurance also said any more points and they will suspend my insurance for 1 year... ahhh, must be a good boy ...

Whatever there's gas in...
One day my son and I were coming home from Marina Del Ray as we had taken the boat out for a run. Driving down the freeway in conversation, I notice a cop way way wayyyyyy in front of us and decided to lock in the cruise control at 65mph..about 2min later, a silver M3 speeds by at an excess of 120mph and disappears around the corner..we come around the corner and see the M3 and the CHP pulled to the side of the road except..the M3 was behind the patrol car and the driver was at the cops window. About 10 min later (on the 14 FWY) at Agua Dulce, I decide to (legally) switch into the carpool lane and lock back in at 65, about 3min into conversation with my son and I look in my rearview only to see the same unmarked car barelling down at me at about 90 so naturally I signal to move out of his way a cross the double yellow..next thing you know, hes in my backseat with his flashers and loud *** siren so I pull over. He comes to the window and says "We've had SEVERAL 911 calls about a speeding white Mercedes-Benz with big shiny (chrome at the time) rims. Ok now come on...everytime I call 911 I get put on hold! ..the officer says "The calls say u exceeded about 130mph and was terrorizing other motorists by cutting them off *blah blah blah* I was pretty pissed but nicely explained that I had my cruise control on and theres no way that ever happened, so the a**hole says "ok well i'm not going to give you a ticket for that, just for the double solid you crossed out of the carpool lane" yes, the same one I crossed to get out of his way..long story short he gave me the ticket, I fought it in court and easily won, and the officer left the courthouse VERY pissed..someone got a ticket THAT day! :p Anyway that's my story..oh and the officers name was Pevee..

i was driving from atlanta to baltimore when i was a sophmore in college. 10pm in North Carolina, not a car in sight on my side of the highway so I cruise at about 90. I know, it's not blazing fast but I didnt want to go to jail either.

I pass by a car going the opposite direction, then he makes a U-turn across the median, and turns on the red and blue. At this point, i'm about 1/4 mile ahead of him, and I'm feeling bold.

Luckily there was an exit ramp a few yards away, so i take it...make a right turn, then a left, then another left, and turn off my lights. I was in some small subdivision where the houses are spread out. My heart is pounding, and just when i thought i was safe, i see the lights! oh F!

i turn on my hazzards ( i dont know why i did). Cop gets out of his car, comes to my window, and says,"hey, where ya goin'?" I joke that i was waiting for him in the subdivision.

He tells me to get out of the car, asks if there's anything he should know about in the trunk, and puts me in the back of his car. I try talking my way out of the ticket, saying how because i was going over 25mph over the limit i would lose my license ( I was under 21 and GA traffic laws are strict). i ask him to please reduce the speed. Not happening.

As he's writing the ticket, another cop shows up, tells him he should bust me on trying to evade an officer, and then drives off shaking his head.

I get 90 in a 65 ticket. Didnt reduce it at all.

A month later, I call the NC courthouse to try changing my courtdate. THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF THE TICKET!! I waited, called again a few days before my courtdate. NO RECORD OF THE TICKET!!

The cop musta lost it or thrown it away or the court lost it.

...and I didn't get a speeding ticket...

Years ago I had a Porsche 928S in which I made it from Chicago to the bridge over the Mississippi River at St. Louis in 2 hours 37 minutes.

According to MapsOnUs, the 297.2 mile trip should take 4 hours 18 minutes.

My calculation is that 297.2 miles could be covered in 2 hours 37 minutes at an average speed of about 110 mph (with no stops). If you figure in a 10 minute stop for gas, then the average speed would be about 119 mph.

Looking back, it is miraculous that I didn't get a ticket, or worse.

Years ago I had an "officer" friend write me a speeding ticket on my Porsche for 147 mph. I framed it and put it in my classroom where I was a teacher. Students loved it, administration said it set a bad example. :v

things with and without wheels
Back in 1985 I was on weekend pass from my ship ,on the day that I had to report to the ship i was invited to a party so figured i go for few hours and i still should have time to get back to the ship.Party was in Seaside NJ and the ship was in Norfolk Virginia. When I finally realized that I'm going to be late I left Seaside driving like a nut using shoulders and passing cars at very high rate of speed around 100+ my luck ran out by the time I was 10 miles away from the Cheasapeake Bay bridge-tunnel.I passed a cop and in a mater of 2 minutes he was on my back bumper . I decide to try to out run him by floring it , I pegged my speedo at 120 and he was still on my tail, I finally came to my sesnses and pulled over after that he slapped hand cuffs on me took me to jail . On the way he told me that there was a road block waiting for me at the entrance to the bridge.Next day I saw the Judge and he took my licence for 6 months $120 ticket and still let me drive my car back to the ship.

.
few years ago i moved from chicago to SF, i was taking HW90 from Chi to seatle and then HW5 down to SF. i was driving a 1993 infiniti g20 5 speed loaded with clothes, computer, and what not, not too nice on stock 2.0L 4 banger. so, in north dakota going up and down mountian hills, i would have to get some speed going on the down hill and strait aways to keep up with the speed limit on up hills, i would hit upwards of 90 on the down hill (strait road, not twisties, and keeping with traffic) so i could stay at 70 with traffic going up hill, well i was half way up the hill i had drasticly slowwed, and low and behold a cop swings a U turn and jumps on my ***. i pull over, still on a 6% incline, cop comes over to me, asks me do you know how fast you were going? me: with traffic, cop: 82 in a 70, i think you cant be serious! well come to find out in north dakota 12 over the speed limit is only a $32 ticket, i hand the cop a $50 and he makes me change, never showed up on my record or insurance!!
