My Dad prepared me and taught me how to be a good realistic driver. Since a very young age, it was in the driveway parking and around the block. When I obtained my permit, it was nonstop highway driving and very high speeds - I learned this gradually and was taught how to handle a vehicle at higher speeds and gain experience from it. He prepared me for such an awesome machine and would never do me the honour of having one if he had doubts. I drive in a very "spirited" manner, to say the least, I've had a couple of kills. Now, my post is not intended to flame or insult, but to grant you some insight. I am not calling bull**** nor am I mocking any stupidity. No. Instead, I will offer some advice.

If you drive fast, do it for you and you only. Driving fast is to enjoy the vehicle, just make sure you know how to control it. As for racing with your family in the car, that is not the right thing to do. On the central road through a number of towns, where it is smooth and stretches for miles, I will do around 60, which is 20 over the limit. Perfectly stable, enjoyable drive. And most people drive around 50-55 so its not like you are wreaking hell. But, if my younger brother is in the car with me, I will not go over 45 mph, and I really could give a **** who is trying to race me.You have to understand that you are placing your family in harms way when you sumbit to such races instigated by idiot drivers, you are proving that you are in fact worse then them.

Take it easy...

spot on child, spot on.

Thanks guys. There are just too many idiot drivers out there who feel the need to "prove" themselves. Had to show an SRT-4 a few things after he really began to push things with me. But I was alone and it was open highway. I just wanted this kid to understand the sheer pointless risk of racing and/or driving fast with family in the car, especially against some truck with moron behind the wheel.

WOW this thread generated some response huh. I guess its just because I grew up in a rich and overly performance oriented family, the first day my mom got this car she drove it 130 and didnt think much of it. Also, my dad and my best friend's dad for their first cars had a Porsche 924 (my dad) and a Lotus Esprit (best friend's dad)

Also, when I say race you guys can figure out that I dont go very fast, I usually let off before even 70MPH just because the other driver never knows Im racing them (obviously that Porsche for example woulda leveled me if he wasnt metally retarded or something, I have no explanation for that one) but its just fun to blow by people at lights and then see their "Pfft, rich kids" expression. Priceless.

BTW yes it was my birthday on Thursday, I am now finally 16 I just want you guys to know that I am not the kind of person who tries to lie or overembelish my stories to get more popular on some online forum, so if you still think my story is BS thats fine, you are entitled to your own opinion and I respect that.

Sometimes it seems like the whole mbworld.org is based on 15-17 years old kids who claim that they have SL600, 06 Corvette Z06, E55.
Which parents will buy such cars to their kids? So much BS over here.

not trying to show off any e-PEN15s here...(lol)

rich and overly performance oriented family
Rich and "overly" performance aren't the best words to describe a family CLK320. Hell a teacher at my school as a 05 CLK320.

I wouldn't even use those words to describe my family. And I'm getting a (used) CLK55 (hopefully) this week.

OT- So one of my good friends has a 2005 Escape Limited (V6 version?)We "raced" a couple times. Ml320 is dead even with it! haha.

No, not because you claim you are rich, but because you are stupid racing like that esecially "with mom in the car." Ohhh thats cool, so you usually let of at 70 but go to 120? Gotcha. Blow by people and see the "pfft rich kids" expression? Haha so you are driving really fast and not looking either?

Hehe, a teacher at my school has a few BMWs. Hell he a few MBs too.

Another teacher at my school, is worth close to a million. (Husband owns a business).

I also recall seeing an M3 in the teachers' parking lot.

120MPH wasnt in one of the races, I just drive that fast on the freeways (not 120 always but always damn near 100, nobody goes under 80 here on the freeways, not even the cops when they're patrollin :/ )

Plus I never said it was 'cool' to drive fast and I do not concider a CLK320 an expensive car at all. But its pretty nice for a free first car, I personally dislike it for its autobox, automatics are no fun to drive, I'd prefer a stick even if Im stuck in traffic all day its just the way I am I guess. When I said performance oriented family I mean when my dad and his best friend (my friend's dad) were younger they'd always be in street races and like I said they had a Porsche/Lotus even when I was younger my dad would always drive the then-new 300E fast all the time but now he's gotten older and I guess he's had a reverse midlife crisis or something (he's gotten more cautious rather than more spendy and fun loving like most men get near their 50s.....

But like I said, you dont wanna believe me thats fine, and I agree driving fast especially at 16 is not a good idea, but come on, how many of you were cautious and smart when you were a teen? None of you.
