2 kills.......i think...
hey guys, I was just wondering all your take on this...... I was driving home 2 days ago and came upon an 05-06 m3 - really sharp looking one. anyway, the road ahead us was splitting to 2 lanes and i let him get up on me and when he did, (he was about 1foot off me) i rolled into it and let 'er rip. to my suprise, my '6 pulled pretty steadily all the way up to about 110 or so. we tried again with the same result. about 5 miles down the road we come to a light and although it was much closer, after about 70 i really pulled away.
also, i had a run in with a newer wrx sti on the expressway that resulted in a solid pull away from 75+ -- he pulled up on me, stayed side by side, bucked forward a few times and we staged and rolled on to about 125. i had about 4-5 cars on him.
my question is were these 2 drivers that expirienced or is the 645 (mine is a 6spd) really that close in accelleration. has anyone here had any expirience head to head with a '6?? thnx for the input

thnx, i thought too, that maybe BMW might have understated the specs on the '6 a little, as to not outdo the M series (current production), kinda like MB does on the tt600's (we all know they are a smidge faster than the 55/63AMG's) oh well, it was pretty fun, anyway

I'm sure. The 6-series is a lovely car and, imho, much nicer than the CLS.
That being said, I don't they fudged the 645 figures. The V8 has much more torque and low down power than the I6 and if you were shifting both well and at redline and the other guy was not then it is no surprise you won.
They are much closer performance wise than people seem to realize.

ICEAMG-I love the E46 M3 to a rather obsessive extent yet concede it is not a dragster by any means. An automatic 645 would kill most of the M3's around here as people can't drive them, they must just like the pretty colors on the badge.
M3>645....but it's a fairly small margin.
The Bimmer forum guys would argue in an empty room. That's why we, as BM drivers, have to put up the reputation the propellar badge gives us. It's worth it though, as the cars are a true pleasure.

A friend of mine sold his E46 M3 for a 645ci manual, but sold it after a couple of months, said it was way too slow and missed the M3. He ended up with a Gransport, but IMHO the 645 was the hottest car i've seen. This one was lowered with 21" BBS rims, i'll try and dig out a pic, but well worth the $200k and turned more heads than the $250k mas!
