The stereotypical presumption of the 350Z driver devalues the car for what it is - same deal with the G35. I drove one, and felt that it was a solid, sporty car. Was it a Porsche, no. But, for $30K, it offered a lot of driving enjoyment.
What you have to understand is that anything can happen on the street. Take my car, for instance. If my transmission decides to be a PITA after adjusting to driving in traffic and doesn't downshift accordingly, that Civic Si someone mentioned would get a serious jump on me. Now, lets say I manually downshift the car into 2nd gear, his polyurethane bumper will melt from the exhaust heat.
The point of this musing is to illustrate how real world driving can be unpredictable. As Andrew said, his M3 outran a C6 Vette. We all know that a C6 has the potential to lay waste to an E46, but the story is feasible due to the fact that we take driver error into consideration.
The same principle is present with this story. It is obvious that the 350Z is a lighter, faster, and more agile car. Who knows, maybe he missed a gear - it was a new car and the driver hasn't fully been accustomed to it. Factor that in with the torque of the MB V8, and we have both a very happy SEL owner and a stunned 350Z owner on the same road.
One more thing, the 300CE 6.0 is awesome. That, and the V12 500E (well, now 600E) are probably my favorite W124's out there.

Nice run man...I know how fast Mids car is...He leaves me with ease since he got those mods....You are stock and he only beat you by a car. Says alot about how ahead of the time those cars were.. ..Anything with AMG on it I dont take lightly..Strike that...Anything with a Benz logo on it might be trouble for a Z....Gotta love them Merc's....Gotta come out to Captree one of these sundays and spank that C36 of yours
btw Another car from your cars era that I absolutely loved and almost got was the 95 540i..About as fast as our Z's..Its a fight to the death with one of those things...Still want one in black...Classic shape and still potent and looks mean....

BTW there is a 95 M5 on my block immaculate black one. It has 310hp I want to run him badly! Forget about the 400hp ones.

for what its worth heres me racing benzoboi's 02 cl500 last year. i had intake and exhaust. got a bit more mods now but i found it on you tube =D

now i have plenum spacer, crank pulley, high flow cats, and a ecu from technosquare. dyno in my sig
with my current set up i walk on my friend 05 m3 smg pretty good from about 50-110. then he slowly picks up ground but by they we run outta road and have to slow down. i have it on tape somewhere online but cant find it. benzoboi can attest to it =D
while i agree 350z's aren't the fastest in the world i think in general 350z's get bashed alot. dont know why. its great bang for the buck and alot more reliable than alot of cars. i had a 00 audi a6 2.7t before and after warranty was up spent at least 2-3k a year just on maintenance and repairs

AA isnt going to like that..He told me in a pm that only boosted Z's can run with or beat those "racecar" M3's...

lol im guessing you had some heated discussions with someone here. i'll try to look for that video but my dyno is on my sig. im making 265 rwhp and average e46 m3's make about 270 rwhp. and less torque. plus they are about 2-300 pounds heavier than my 05.

Yep if you read the whole thread you will know who it is....Pretty close minded chap that one....Id leave offering any pros for the Z alone as its a pretty hated car on this board....Never knew how bad a car it was until I came here...Thats even after 1 1/2 years of mostly trouble free ownership

Great looks like the 350z forum is coming over here. Don't even try and defend 350zman he is the one that lays out the personal attacks. And I don't get why you guys keep touting the "uve had a bad experience with 350'zs" no I have not its the drivers and I would say the highest percentage of douchebag drivers I have run into drive 350z's and G35's.
