'99 S320 v. '05 Mustang 4.0L V6.
Coming home from work today, I pull up to this high school age kid in a current model V6 Mustang. I don't know if it's an auto or manual or what, but the 4.0L V6 is pretty punchy in these. Anyway, we're at a stoplight, me next to him, and the light turns green and I kinda take off hard, to see if he'll do so, but he doesn't. So a mile down the road, there's another stoplight, and I take off hard here again, to see if he'll play. Well this time he does, at about 20 mph, we both go WOT. I see my tach needle jump into the 6,000 zone and I see he's right next to me too. We race until about 65-70 mph and I'm hanging right there with him the entire time...well until the very end when he begins to pull from me. By 70 mph, I'm at his mirrors and we both lay off at that point.
I looked over, made eye contact and we both nodded at each other in an appreciative sense.
Awesome!
I've seen 0-60 times for these new 4.0L V-6 Mustangs at anywhere between about 6.7 and 8.5, depending on transmission, etc etc. I'm willing to bet that this one was an Automatic, because there's no way my car will keep up with a car that'll go naut to sixty in 6.7 seconds... Not even an S500 would be able to beat one of those.
For the record, M-B quoted my 0-60 time at 8.8, and I've personally seen 8.9 out of mine with a stop watch, but when going from a dead stop, there's a lag before the power really kicks in...whereas going from a roll, it's gonna get into the powerband a lot quicker...
