Pulled by a clk63

Was driving in my c4 996 911 and pulled up behind a 07 clk 63 in lovely silver.
The lights changed and he gently pulled away to about 30 mph, i knew he would gun it at the road ahead was completely clear for about a mile.
I kept my car in second and waited for the inevitable. Then WHAM he gunned it and I followed suit.
He pulled about 2 car lengths and then I think he had some traction issues as I crept back but then it seemed to hook up.
we shut off at 90 by which time he was about 3 car lengths on me. We slowed and gave each other thumbs up.

By my reckoning his acceleration was very similar to a 996 turbo. I wasnt too dissapointed as my ride gave a fair showing considering I have 300 hp vs 460 and whole lot less torque. Sounded good too

Well, that's a rolling start race. He would just kill you if you race him from a dead start !!

he was having trouble hooking up from 50 ish in 2nd, it would be a beast to get a good launch. Got to admire sheer grunt when you see it

BTW mine is the pre facelift 996 with 300 hp, 2001 models onwards got 315

Im not starting any nonsense, but I can tell you that if you did manage to out 60' the CLK due to traction issues by the time 2nd gear was done the 63 would have driven around you and been on it's way OUT

We had a 997 C4S(355hp) and was very unimpressed with the power. If I dumped the clutch at anything over 3000rpm all I got was horrific wheel-hop&the obligatory burning clutch.I've had a few run-ins locally with an older(cocky)gentleman who has a 997C4S,the outcome was the same everytime:he got walked badly. On one occasion he tried sniping me from a blindsided roll at 60mph;I stomped on the pedal, the car downshifted&I shot past him rather swiftly. He was so enraged he threw the middle finger out the window at me when traffic forced me to slow down&he did a ricer fly-by

You know I really enjoy the 996 C4, surprising the are quite fast (down low) for the low torque that they have and honestly I believe they look better than the clk63. So to me, you ended up leaving with the better car.

low weight is why time and again the p-car can hang with cars more powerful
but you have to respect AMG GRUNT.

Im more than happy with my car as it is a superb all round package.
