Played With An Xkr Today

I've seen this georgous Jag around the neighborhood for a few months and we've followed each other in and out a couple of times. The guy drives aggressive and we've eye balled each other a couple of times but never had a chance to pair up and go for it.

This morning I end up behind him and followed him out of the neighborhood on my way to the office. After about four or five miles we end up side by side at a light with only light traffic ahead and I just knew it was on. We both roll easy across the intersection and then hit it hard. I immediately pull a couple lengths on him and then continue to slowly pull away up to about a 100 where I back off and begin to slow down. He does the "ricer fly by" but does give me a thumbs up as I slow to make my turn.

Fun race with a very good looking car that I though I might lose to but was pleasantly surprised to beat. Anyone know how fast these XKR's are? Cause I'm wondering if I beat the car or the driver.

Both.

The fastest I've seen one run at the strip was a 13.10, average 13.50's.

You beat the car. E55 is in another league. The Jag's 414bhp supercharged 4.2 is not up to snuff. Helps that the Jag is fairly light at 1665kg (Autocar)

Autocar timed the new XKR coupe at 5.2secs to 60 and 11.8secs to 100.

Don't have the E55 figures in there anymore but E60 M5 hit the ton in 9.8secs for them in comparison.

Carl, you know that you can just knock a few tenths off of any M5 time for a close approximation of the E55. Works for anything under 120 in a straight line.

Probably works for the E550 too if we're talking 0-60. Glad I don't stoplight race anymore or the L.A. crew would be filling the kills section with my carcass.

Torque limiter in 1st gear is hell. I'm writing the obituary for my clutch right now, I'm hearing/feeling a "THUD" underfoot when it gets into first now, definitely not healthy.

As for the Jag, that AJV8 is OLD OLD OLD. We're talking John McCain old. They need a newer, bigger, better, meaner motor now.

Much as it pains me to say, if I move anywhere near the mountains in the next couple of years, I'll likely be in an M5. Interstate on/off ramps are the closest approximation to "twisties" that I currently have at my disposal.

Can't agree any more. With Ian Cullum's (spelling?) new designs, I think the Jag's are pretty sexy...the new XKR at least. But what is with that same old s/c'ed Ford engine? Jaguar is readying itself for extinction with its lack of evolution.
