SL55 vs turbo, winged Cobalt!

SL55 vs turbo, winged Cobalt!
I usually drive at a bit faster pace than most traffic, so when I see someone mirroring my moves and speed, it's either a cop, a friend or a challenger. In this case is was the Challenger.
It was a bit unusual to see what appeared to be a Chevy Cobalt with this huge wing trying to pace me. We are on a road that is fairly straight, but then leads to some nice twisty bits, so as he pulls out to attempt the pass, I squeeze the loud pedal!
He was as game as anyone, and as hard as he tried he could only hold his own until ~65mph, after which he turned into a dot in my mirror. He catches up to me as I am turning onto a nice twisty section of road. I am stopped, and he is rolling through the left turn heading on to the road on the outside (I am on the inside) of the 2 lane left hand turn.... As he passes me I could hear the distinct sound of a pop off valve from a turbo. "I guess he has more than a few squirrels running that thing" I thought.
He once again is on it hard and I just reeled him in, passed and set up for the left, right, right, left section. As I watched the little Chevy go backwards in my rear view, I had a nice line set up through the corners, I saw him try to attack the corners without having a clue about the line, so he wisely had to let off.
This same routine happened on several on ramps, off ramps, and twisty sections. When he finally caught up, he got next to me and wanted to talk. He was all smiles and compliments on my driving and the SL55's speed. He then shared the Cobalt's FI fact and that he wasn't used to having his butt handed to him like that! I complimented him on having a cool sleeper. A good time on a Wednesday afternoon.
At least there was no road rage or gun fire...... this is Phoenix, after all!

was it a cobal ss? i think the ss comes with a wing and turbo stock. Nice kill, it would need to be heavily modifed to keep up. They have good amount for power for the money, too bad the rest of the car is a POS.

I had the unfortunate experience of racing a Cobalt SS. I was at a stop light with the top down. It was a nice night and I was not looking for a fight. A Cobalt pulls up next to me with his stereo bumping. The light turns green and he just nails the throttle. I ease into the throttle and at the last second decide to floor it. I leave him for dead; I let off the throttle around 60mph thinking what the point and or course he does the classic ricer fly by and cuts in front of me....

When my car was still stage 1 on giac. ::est. 300-330bhp:: I got spanked by one with three people in my car. They can be quick when modded but the plastic interior and FWD is more then unpleasant.

They come with a supercharger, but I hear the 09 will come with a single K04 Turbo.
They really aren't that fast unless heavily modded.

Eww Colbalts... They're worst than SRT4. Nice kill, though! I wish I had a chance to run one, but none of them want to race me whenever I see them in the streets. They usually have the gangsta music with either their girlfriend or boyfriend. MEH!

Looking for a new toy.
GM replaced the S/C 225hp 2.0 for a 260hp 2.0T in this years Cobalt SS. Should be a decently quick little car but, obviously, no match for an SL55 
.

I've raced two different Cobalt SS Stage II (work done by GM performance on both cars) against my stock CLK500. I would pull them everytime.
They come with a supercharger, but I hear the 09 will come with a single K04 Turbo.

Obviously pulled away from my 03 350z which ran 13.8. I know the CLk500 runs high 13s-low 14s. Those little ****ers are quick when modded.
