Six Way Thrills
Had a wonderful Saturday. I know I shouldn't being doing this but the big pedal keeps calling. Northbound on the I-5 right before Pendleton get a silver SLK55 and white SLK32 fooling around with me. Just good fun. Mostly open road light traffic. A few good pulls from 65mph. A blue Mazdaspeed 3 joins the fun. Although he lacks the hp, the thing is zippy under the century mark. The white SLK32 seems to have the best lane sense. We latch onto a late model M3 that can't say no to joining us. Looks like a NASCAR drafting contest. I'm still lead dog given the HP/TQ advantage. We get through Pendleton and slow down to near human speeds (we take turns leading) until we get to the 73 tollway split. I figure I'm on my own past here, but the caravan follows me. Now there is no traffic and from back on the I5 I see a black 996 turbo pulling hard to catch up. We all take off to see how many of us he can catch. He eventually passed us all but not until my top end mph limiter kicked in. Then we get to the toll booth and nobody has a fast pass. It was like a LeMan's scramble start to get through the toll booth lanes. Right before Newport my Valentine (and the one in the Porsche) go nuts and the rest of the caravan "gets it" and hits the binders. The Porsche waves us to all take the same exit at UC Irvine. After we all park, it was like old home week. The best surprise was the SLK32 driver was a very attractive Viet girl who had no fear of mixing up with us. None of them had planned to take the 73, they just said they having too much fun.
