Thumbs up CL65 (w215) vs...

Was coming back from dinner with the wife. I was in my car and she in hers so I took a detour home. Really didn't expect to see anyone out at the local spot. There were a few cars so I decided to pop my car's cherry. I raced a blue C6 with boltons but OEM run-flats, a gray last gen M5 with boltons and slicks (sounded awesome), blue 350z (unk mods) and a gray G8 GT (unk mods) all with the same outcome. All got off the line better than me (I expected that because of crappy tires which have since been replaced) but by the time I was at 60 I passed them all. Fun little break. Did each race back to back to back and really didn't notice any heat soak. Thank God for this cold weather, my turbos liked it. Need to get out there more.

Totally stock. Picked it up about 4 months ago. I traded in a Challenger SRT8 for it. I was running PS' but they were wearing out too fast (this is my daily driver). I decided to give a set of Kumho Ecsta SPTs. Yup, they aren't the best, but they aren't the worst. They are decent enough. I plan on buying a set of Vriedenstiens in the summer. Had them on my Challenger and they were sticky as hell...until about 40%...then they were wet and wild on the road!

Nice runs.

These AMG V12 Twin Turbos are beast stock and even more monsters when tuned. Sort of strange though, a bolt on modded Corvette C6 are usually VERY fast in addition to bolton modded M5s. Was this the V10 version or the V8 from a decade ago?

A bolton V10 M5 especially a bolton modded C6 corvette should put up a better fight against a stock CL65 AMG.

I meant an E39 not an E60. he had DRs on it and it launched like a bat out of hell. the C6 was a good run, but I had him by a car. I don't think I would beat a ZO6, but a non cammed C6 is fine...lol

Gotcha. Yeah, you don't wanna mess with a C6 Z06 unless you have a tune. Then you may

I've seen modded bolton C6 LS3 V8 Corvettes trap mid 120s mph and deep into the 11s so they definitely can keep up/beat stock 65 AMGs.

I think stock 65 AMGs are in low-mid 120 trap range...can't find any numbers for the CL65 stateside, but the SL65 (which weighed about the same) was tested here and I think traps were in the 122+, with one around 125

C&D tested this one at 11.9 @ 123:
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...take-road-test

I think one test had it at 120, but that was in a pretty high heat environment and they said it was obviously suffering from heat soak.

Edit: I did find one stateside CL65 test, at Motortrend:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ecs_price.html
11.8 @ 120.9 mph

Interesting: it looks like they used these numbers for the comparison test as well. I remember that the writer for one mag actually took one to the strip, and the guy was having a terrible time getting it launched, I think he hit a mid 11 for his best time...will try to find it later on if anyone's interested, it's at home.

Are you talking about Automobile mag taking an SL65 to the strip:

http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...amg/index.html

Or are you talking about Car magazine taking a CL65 to Santa Pod track in the UK and running it against the Ariel Atom?

My completely stock CL65 ran a best 12.4 @ 118.Xmph in the heat and humidity. I dropped it to an 11.75 @ 118.Xmph with drag radials in the same heat and humidity. In cooler weather with a Kleemann tune, it ran 11.209 @ 123.7mph.

But also remember that the drag strip trap speeds are almost 2 mph slower than the GPS trap speeds used by the magazines (and no weather correction of the ETs and traps at the track either).

Yeah, I think the SL65 one was the one I was thinking of, for some reason I could've sworn it was a CL65...heat and humidity are killers for those things, they get heat soaked pretty quickly as I recall, just too much engine and not enough ventilation under that hood!

They should trap 12x mph with better conditions and a very-hard-to-hit-with-that-much-torque good launch.
