2001 Mercedes Benz CLK 430 Coupe
A kill,then a laugh

Hi all, I am new here and just got my first Benz. A very nice and well maintained 2001 CLK 430. Only had it three days. This afternoon was my first ride in it on the freeway as I was on my way to work. A GTO is riding my *** all the way onto the freeway and as I dont know my car yet, and I do know GTO's I thought I was toast. To my surprise as well as his we took off from a 50 roll and his loud exhaust could be heard from inside mine with the windows up and stereo on. After he got 1 to 1 1/2 lengths on me she started pulling like no other car I have ever ridden in or driven, minus the GT40 I did a maint on when I worked at ford as a tech. Needless to say when I looked in the rear veiw some short time later he was steadily drifting away and to my astonishment this beast was still pulling. Next I knew I was at 130 and decided to let off with him still a few "bus lengths" behind as another forum member has recently posted. But as I like to google things, I just found a post on a 4G forum about some dork in a newer eclips GT that states he just smoked a CLK 430, as of this afternoons events in mine I find this very hard to believe. If you want a laugh just check it out.

Okay slow it down here Jethro...

You said "GTO" initially. That to me means Pontiac GTO which should be faster than you. Then you mention a newer Mitsubishi Eclispe GT... So... it's the Eclispe GT? They're aren't that fast anyway stock so it's believable.

I'm sorry fot the confusion yes It was a GTO, and yes he couldnt keep up after 115 or so. My guess is he was geared way too short for high speed runs, he should have stayed at the stoplights. But the eclips GT I was refering to was on one of thier forums about how some guy in one smoked a CLK 430. I have seen those cars run and I doubt he was truwe in his story thats why I posted the laugh part.

Weird. A Pontiac GTO should've killed you. They're not fast stock, if I remember around like 13 to 14 seconds trap speed 1/4 mile at 105 or less even mph.

Pretty sure your CLK430 stock can't even do that...

CLK 63 AMG
HWYSTAR, welcome. The 430 is a real pleasure at speed. I took mine to ~125-130 and really appreciated how stable it felt. That 208 manages its weight so well with just enough power...
but be careful; that feeling is addictive. I bought a CLK 63 two years later. At first it is hard to imagine owning such a fine car, then overnight, you can't imagine life being the same without it.

Hmmm, you at Ford and rode in a GT40? And that was the quickest you've been in although there was a GT500 for a little while...

Tell me, did this GTO have dual exhaust, one on each side? Hood scoops? Auto or stick?
