another surprise kill!
raced a 2003 SL6.1 BRABUS in my 1999 E39 M5 from a rolling start of 40 km/h.
I got a little more wheelspin than i wouldve wanted, but hey.. what the heck couldnt help it. SL jumps me by about a half car length.. we're neck to neck till 100 km/h then he pull on me a couple of yards.
I hit 160 km/h and to my total surpeise close in on him and overtake slowly, then pull away more rapidly when i hit 200 km/h. By the time i hit 260 km/h, the SL was 4 car lengths behind and still falling!!!!!!!
found out that the owner of the SL had a full BRABUS conversion done to his SL500!

Nice kill! Sounds like you have a FAST M5, how much hp are you putting out with those mods? What are the numbers on you 0-60 and 0-100, and have you topped it out yet? Nice car, nice kill.

they're not really into performance, but more prestige imo...
but: 426hp and 621Nm isn't too shabby I think Actually, I would be more surprised if I encounterd a Brabus on the road than an AMG, not that there are so many of them, but just the name, the reputation of BRABUS (reputation also: VERY EXPENSIVE!)
if you want performance from Brabus, get the K8-kit: 550hp and 780Nm

"Brabus more for the show than the go"
I think guys that you don't know what you are talking about. Brabus is for me the alter ego of alpina for mercedes. They don't produce toys for the sunday morning, they produce cars for people who drive everyday. Confort and reliability is as important as performance.
It's normal that a E39 M5 win over a 6.1. the brabus produces 426 HP but it's has more weight and an autobox. If you want to win over everything, just take a SL SV12 (640 HP and 1026 NM).

I think we have had this discussion many times. You think Brabus is the king of MB tuning b/c that's all you hear about over there in France. It's kind of funny that you bring up Alpina, given that their Z8 conversion is exactly about the "more show than go." Brabus is certainaly a good tuner, however, they are pretty conservative in their approach and don't produce the fastest MBs. Yes, their cars are reliable, but that is expected given their big block approach. Their wheels weigh a ton, which makes liitle sense from a performance aspect, and they use a v12 to get the same hp that others get with a V8. Again, I'm not saying that Brabus isn't good. All I'm saying is that while their cars look great and put out good numbers, they often seem more focused on the show than the go. Next time you see a tuner challenge that focuses on performance numbers, see if Brabus even shows up.
