Killed an Escalade - Highway kill

Driving back to Atlanta from Houston, I am averaging 85 mph on I-65 North out of Mobile. It's about 10pm and for the most part traffic is fairly light..not too many idiots blocking the left lane Highway speeds for me run normally in the 78-85 range, depending upon traffic and I rarely pass at more than 85 (especially at night)....I'm still a defensive driver for the most part.

I end up passing an Escalade with the DVD running for the kiddies in the back seat. I'm running 80-85 when I pass and I'm guessing he's about 75. Evidently, he's just waiting for someone with a radar detector to follow....he jumps into my lane and immediately matches my speed. He only *allows* me the luxury of having 2 car lenghts distance behind me with his high lights and fogs on for good measure. I don't mind 'shadows', but give me a little distance and don't blind me for pete sake!

So, I decide to press it a little to see if he hangs with me...(or, until his wife tells him to slow down ) The speedometer nudges 86 then 87....88 mph. There, that should do it! Mind you, I always return to the right lane after a pass as I don't want to set a bad example. Mr. BLING shadows me in the left lane for the next 5 miles or so. Nice. Let's see what he's made of, I think to myself.

I move into the left lane for a pass and then back into the right, using signals of course. No traffic. V1 is silent. I don't use the throttle enough for the 4-speed tranny to kickdown, just plenty to get the 1991-vintage 300CE moving. He hangs with me until about 100, then I see him fading back several car lengths as I move toward 110, 115, 120. My ride is as smooth as glass and I'm still enjoying the next to last books-on-tape cassette I rented from Crackel Barrel. After about 2-3 miles, I slowly let the sleek coupe edge below 100 and then back into my preferred cruise control setting....gotta love it. I turned 184,000 miles on this trip. To say I enjoyed the near 1800 miles round-trip would be an understatement

There's nothing wrong with having a little fun on the highway with ANY car! I like doing that on I-10 between Iraan and San Antonio. I've mess with all kinds from your run of the mill Camry's, Grand Am's/Prix's, to Mercedes and BMW's. The German car drivers are always fun to bat around with on the highway, cause most of the ones I have fun with are friendly and know it's all in good fun.

Gotta love road trips....

I'm not into 'racing' with the CE (I save my *real* kills for the AMG)

Nice kill. You never know what can happen with an Escalade, they are good sleepers, I've heard of many Escaldes having 500+ hp and hauling some serious a$$.
