defensive kill?

On our way to the lab, we wound up behind a Dodge Neon, an older-looking model. The guy really held me up on a right-hand turn, but I kept my distance after that.

Then at a red light a couple blocks from where we had to turn, the guy got into the left lane to get ahead of a Buick. The Buick turned off, leaving the two of us side-by-side. At the green, he punched it a bit. I let him get about half a length ahead, then I punched it too. Not too hard, just enough to keep him about half a length behind.

Why? I didn't want the yahoo to cut right in front of me. Sure enough, he slowed down and got behind me to make a right-hand turn at the next light. Funny, if he'd just stayed in that lane the whole way, he'd've been ahead. My wife gave me the usual "were you racing? why do you drive so erratically?" It was worth it, since I'm just dead sick of morons cutting in front all the time, especially when it won't get them any further ahead....

I keep biotches in check on a daily basis. But then again, it's a must around the VA/DC/MD area. People can't drive for *****.

I can see trouble coming from miles ahead...a few things to look out for:

The random lane change (usually from a right to a left lane), a slow moving driver changes lanes on a lane highway or beltway, for no reason (no one is in front of them). A few seconds later you see a pile of cars being slowed behind the idiot. This is when you need to be able to send electric shock into the monkey in the car ahead of you...sooner or later they will learn (I wonder if this is an American-only problem?).

Also, when you see the beehive style hair. You know it's time to duck and cover. That strange hair, up in the air; visable from a few car lenths back, is non-other than the worst driver on the road...an old lady. She will wait for you to try and pass, then merge into your lane sending you off the road. As you honk, she won't look because she doesn't care about the damage she has done. She will just give you the "I'm sorry" wave, in order to prevent a possible road rage case.

Oh, now there is high schooler...

Ahh , we will save that for later. But, I could go on and on...

Yeah, almost everyday I saw those dumb drivers who can't drive and may endangered other drivers.
Yeah, maybe "to much dumb drivers in US"

it's becuase we don't enforce a "drive on the right, pass on the left" law. on 2-lane interstates, you don't usually see this problem becuase you have some more reasonable drivers.

If they did that though, wouldn't you think that they would worry about speed violations before they bust someone for that. Because, in my experience the people in the left lane are going the speed limit or like 5 over. It would be a great thing, but IMO i think that it would lead to more problem with the strong arm of the law. I think after i can afford a Valentine my feelings will change.

i dont think speeding would be such a big concern, at least not more so than it is right now. besides, the issue at hand is the basic ability to drive. we're talking about simple maneuvering, not race track driving. apeeding needs to be a secondary concern. more tickets need to be handed out for not using turn signals, blowing stop signs, crossing lines that you're not supposed to, and jay-walking than should be handed out for speeding. and for the most part, i think "drive on the right, pass on the left" would do a lot of good for most people. yeah, sure, there will always be a few idiots, but that's still better than everybody else thinking "if he does it, why can't i?"

Keep going! You are right on all points. Driving is as much about trust and assumption as it is skill. If you can't count on others to follow the rules of the road, driving chaos ensues. Speeding is less chaotic than drivers stopping and backing up on the freeway or ignoring traffic lights.

Here's my most hated move, probably because its the only way to get to my neighborhood and happens nearly everyday:
You're approaching a red stop light in the left lane on a 2 lane on each side street. There is a car right behind you but nobody to your right. You know, and the person behind you knows that once you pass through the light the right lane immediately merges into the left. While waiting at the light, the person behind you pulls around you into the right lane to go straight, fully knowing that they need to turn right about 200 feet up. They punch it to get in front of you, cut you off as the lane merges, and then hammer the brakes down to turn right, forcing you to nearly rear end them as they are making the turn... This only happens to me in my 300E or ML320 sometimes to faster cars. I make sure it doesn't happen in the coupe. But c'mon people, what's the point other than pissing someone off and saving .0002 seconds off of your trip? Of course, nobody on this forum would ever do that...
