'91 300td vs. Jeep Liberty....
a week or 2 back, we went to the seaside in our '91 W124 300TD non-turbo, just my dad and I.
I was cruising the highway at about 150kph on left lane, when this Hollandish freak comes up from behind with his Jeep Liberty 2.5CRD, flashing his lights and pushing closely.
I took my time, changed lane, let the freak pass... and just went into chase.
MAN that guy just didn't believe his eyes when he saw a 12year old mercedes Diesel with 440.000kms chasing him and wanting to go past at HIS topspeed(... about 165kph).
On that trip I managed to get it up to about 175kph, wich isn't very bad with only 113hp.
... I love old mercs....

The TD needs to be run like that all day long for a lengthier service life. It is VERY good for the engine to run it at max velocity whenever possible. Just ask any 200-240D owner.
BTW, how was the fuel economy traveling at those speeds(just curious)?

jeah I was actually wondering if it really was ok for the engine to 'stress' it that much.
at those speeds I still get about 11-12liters/100kms (don't know how much that is in mpg, sry) but I'm very very pleased with the fuel economy of the diesel engine. at normal highway speeds (120-130kph), it easily gets 8 liters/100km.
great to hear that it can't hurt the engine to run at high rpm.
yeah I know those 200D/240D engines are legendary....
(I'm actually looking for a 200D, heard a lot of great things about these cars...)
