Beautiful Arizona Saturday morning, heading home from a little C&C bonding with my buds (I love crashing the Porsche events... it drives 'em crazy). For a change I was not in a rush. Just taking my time, enjoying the warmth of the sun and remembering why I got out of the frozen north and came here. It's a perfect place if you love to drive..... all year long.
Anyway, back to the challenge at hand. Heading home I spy the distinctive grill and outline of an S Class cab. I adore the coupes, but this cab was stunning. As he pulls up next to me, I see the V8, bi turbo logo. It's an AMG.... great sound, lots of horsepower and even more weight. The light is red and he's looking over, waving and revving that thing. Surely he knows this land yacht weighs around 5000 pounds. I guess not, because the light turns green and he lights them up. I gave him the intersection and then annihilate him like he had an anchor attached to his bumper. The next light is red and here he comes, all smiles and waves..... revving the AMG. Light changes and there he goes. This time I gave the intersection and 110 feet. Same result. Mr S 63 was a good sport. After 3 lights and the same result, the road after 4th light has a couple of corners. Surely he has had enough, but no. The light changes and he nails it. This time I decide to just go and flex a bit.... no head start. It wasn't close to a fair fight and once we hit the corners he became a tiny dot in my rear view. I did wait for him at the next light. As he pulls up his smile is even bigger. He yells over, that he thought he had a fast car and could not believe what just happened..... 4 times! He asked what my speeds were in the corners..... I just said adequate! Light changes and we just trundle away. Nice morning!
