Possible bad transfer case
My 98 ML320 has a shimmy/vibration when making hard turns at slow speeds: Maneuvering when parking, u-turns, etc.
I am being told that it most likely is the transfer case. Typically this is done under warranty if still under warranty. In my case I am under in the miles category but over by a few months in time.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is it common and worth trying to get MBUSA to cover some of the cost?
I am told that the problem does not indicate failure in the future but that it is more of an annoyance and not to worry.
Thanks for any input.

Had this problem with my 98 from day one till I sold it to get my ML500. It is normal with the 98. They changed the front/rear power distribution to 48/52 from 50/50 in 99 and this solved the problem. Its more of an annoyance than anything else

Hi all. I am new to the forum and a new ML 320 owner. I noticed the same vibration like feel when making tight turns in my 98 ML I took it back to my dealer in MD. They test drove it and said it is a bad transfer case and they will install a new one. It is covered by my warranty, and they gave me a loaner. They provided excelent service R&H Mercedes off Reisterstown MD.
