nav system error

I get a cd-rom error when I put in the Nav CD

anyway to reset the radio or any other tricks ?

what can I expect to pay for a new cd rom nav drive? if that is the only solution?

If the error message is limited to your navigation CD, you might consider either duplicating it (free) or purchasing an updated version (~$150). As ML God mentioned, the CD-ROM drive is somewhat expensive; if it has failed, then perhaps you should embrace the opportunity to upgrade your drive to a DVD-ROM!

I'd speculate that it is probably the CD itself, not necessarily the drive.

I have had the MCS freeze on me and both the nav drive and changer give CD read error

not once, several times but only occassionaly...a reboot usually fixes it...a reboot is only accomplished by pulling the key out, not just turning the MCS off and then on - its a real pain if it does that while cruizing on the freeway...one has to pull over and stop the vehicle, pull the key out wait and then restart the truck...I think the software in the MCS is buggy & crashes/freezes at times, just like any other software....

Also, with use, the drives wear too...probably some lens cleaning might help...and of course the CD could be the culprit too, but I play my home made CDs most of the times in the changer...without a problem...
