You will need a T20 and a flat blade screw driver. it's simple
1. removed the lid. use the t20 and removed the 2 screws then with the flate blade screw driver you will see 2 small slits right under the screws. go into the slits and press on the releases as you lift on the lid. do both sides. then on the bottom of the complartment gently press the center of the plastic rivets to release them Dont push the center pin all the way through, you wont find it. if you have an early 02 you will have 2 plastic screw. remove those.
2. then pull out the compartment.
3. removed the gear shift top cover
removed the plastic trim around the shifter by prying up (i use a small plastic wedge)
4. removed the 2 T20 and lift up on the wood.
5. disconnect to 3 electrical connectors and remove the shift wood with the window switches
6. removed the last 4 T20s. if you look strait down you will see 1 more electrical connector. disconnect it.
7. make sure the shifter is all the way down in D then removed the console
