Troubleshooting NAV issue

I have given up on trying to fix my NAV issue. Let me begin by saying that I installed it myself. It worked for a long time, then the direction arrow started to get off. It then only connected to the satellites intermittently, and finally not at all. I replaced the antenna and nothing different.

Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks
Paul

Depending on the year of the vehicle, could be the way the antenna mounts, or it could be the splitter, or it could be one of the cables between the splitter and antenna. Could be your nav unit too, but let's eliminate that as least likely.

The absolute easiest solution is to install a new antenna under the dash that is wired directly to your nav. That would also tell you for sure if the nav unit is OK.

Don't you mean on the dash? Is there any place that I can get an antenna that would work in this case, preferably not the dealer as they are costly?

Nope, I mean under the dash, which is the method sanctioned by Mercedes-Benz for placement of antennas when retrofitting a navigation system to most models. The W163 M-class is one model that this works well for.

You can get an antenna from a number of places. Please e-mail me if you would like a picture of one possible type.

You could hook the antenna up and lay it on the dash and try it to make sure everything works well before permanently affixing it to the underside.

Hello guys, I have a picture of that antenna lying around on my server:

Taken from this page:

http://www.whnet.com/4x4/gps_antenna.html

What happens sometimes is that the 5 Volts is not fed to the back to the antenna correctly. I take a DVM and check the voltage direct at the foot on the roof, and tighten it down more in case it's not present.

Yes you can buy this Alpine GPS antenna which is Plug and play for the MCS for US ML.... Not sure for URO Command..... You can buy online for $25.50 @ www.pacparts.com.... Just select Alpine as manuf. and part #01T85385W04... I purchased one about 7 months ago for my ML and it has worked flawlessly.
